It would be very costly for the government to regulate/repair.
They would have to help the tobacco farmers and all of those farm workers all of the cigarette companies workers, right down to the advertisers and distributers come up with alternate income.
They would need special task forces to regulate illegal cigarette use and distribution.
Aside from completely re-writing the law in every state being a huge task, it would be finacially devestating.
I guess they see human life lost as being the lesser evil expense wise.

Because of the huge amount of taxes they collect on them. Ya know, there are a LOT of people out here that enjoy cigarettes and don't give one rats a** if they are harmful. Why does everyone want them banned? Hell, gansta rap is much more harmful to society as a whole but no one dares to suggest we ban that crap.

It's a legal product. Why not just start taking alcohol, fattening
foods, cigarettes, salt, everything that's bad for you off the market,
and shut down all fast food restaurants, stop selling candy and
soft drinks,too.
Do you understand where I'm going with this? People have to
take responsibility for there own health and choices.

They're getting rich off it. Plus, people dying a few years earlier means Social Security won't collapse during their watch, and they can continue ignoring its inherent mathematical stupidity.
They don't care about your health; nor do they care about the "children." Those are just terms used to pander in exchange for uninformed votes.

If you were to ban smoking, smokers would go crazy and probably riot, which makes it a horrible for the government.
