By the time one flea dies of natural causes, there are hundreds more that she has spawn. It just won't happen on its own. You are going to have to chemically treat it.

I'm sorry - I really didn't answer your question. Here is a link to the life cycle of a flea.

Adult fleas live for 50 days. Fleas to survive need a host to survive. They can't live in your carpet. But the pupae can go dormant for 4 to 5 months in your carpet. They awake when the sense vibration and light changes. When they sense this they make their leap and jump onto a new host. If your dogs and cats are on flea preventative (ferrets and other small rodents too) the fleas have no host and they die. They won't infect humans, as long as you have good hygiene. They will bite you and fall off but the flea won't infest you.
It will take awhile for the larvae to all hatch so in the mean time vacuum the vibration will wake them up and then they are quickly sucked up.
Sometimes just using frontline or advantage is simpler than spraying your house with harsh chemicals

Honey, you are in dream land. They don't die in your home, they go to the cracks and crevices and baseboards and carpeting and they breed, breed, breed until your house is so infested you won't be able to stand it. Take care of the problem as soon as possible. You might have to bug bomb, wash all your animals bedding, vaccuum and throw away the bag, the Raid flea spray in the purple can is pretty good if your infestation isn't too far gone.

Get some decent flea medication from your vet also. It is more expensive than over the counter stuff but it works.

They don't. If there are no animals around, they will feed off humans. Even if the adult fleas die, the eggs will lay dormant in the cracks of your house for as long as it takes for a meal to come along - the presence of bodyheat and the vibration of movement stimulates eggs to hatch.

You need to take action if you want fleas gone from your home, and by that I don't mean flea bombs or any crapola from a store, I mean stuff from a vets.

Fleas can lie dormant for up to six months with out a blood meal.
To give you a better idea what you are up against I suggest you use your search engine and just type in fleas.

I think you will find out more than you ever want to know about fleas.

They won't go away on their own. If you have animals then use advatage. I have tried everything out htere and that works the best! Once they are not on your animals then they will eventually but very slowly go away. I'm sure you can find some product at the store to spray on your carpets and stuff to help get rid of the flees. Don't think this problem will go away on it's own. It will never get better, only worse, so take action now before they eat you alive in you sleep!

You have to keep killing the living ones for two weeks before they lay eggs. If you do this, you stop the cycle and all fleas will be gone. Wash every loose piece of fabric in hot, hot, hot water; vacuum every day; treat your pet with something sold by the vet, not the over the counter stuff at the grocery store; and comb off any live fleas and squish them every day. Also, there is this stuff called Seven (I think) at any home/garden store in the yard pest treatment section. You sprinkle it (white powder) in the grass and it kills seven different types of insects, fleas included. Wear rubber gloves when you sprinkle it and get a dust mask. I've did this for a three dog household and we didn't have fleas for 5 years after. Now we get one or two fleas occasionally because we have other dogs come over but I treat with the stuff from the vet every three months or so (even though it is for every month, we don't need that much and I don't like unnecessary chemicals).

They won't die in the house as long as they have a host like your dog or cat. You must kill them!
