Hello. First of all, don't be scared. And don't worry. There is no point at all in worrying. I have answere this question many times so please take you time to look at others who have asked the same question and look for my answer. Basically this planet has already started to warm up a lot more than is within the safe zone and the majority of the most highly qualified and respected scientists in their fields believe it has been caused by human activity. The petoleum and coal industries are chiefly to blame. Americans and Chinese emit the most pollutants and now this must be stopped as soon as possible. Dr. James Lovelock (English) wrote a book about it and the Earth called The Gaia Theory. Now he believes too little is being done, too late and he is working on developing heat pumps to bring cold water up from the depths of the oceans in order to cool down the climate more quickly. Climate changes are already happening as you can see from world and national weather. Warmer winters, more flooding, wetter summers, sudden changes in weather.....etc... This country is about 50 years behind Europe in developing technologies for appropriate building materials and systems for housing. France and Australia have already developed cars which run on compressed air. You won't see much of that advertised, of course, because silly programmes like Top Gear, promote gas guzzling petrol engines. The answer has to be reducing our energy consumption. It can be done with some thought by using passive methods and low tech methods and a more radical approach to planning and industry. But politicians are only interested in power not ethics or morals so forget them People power is the answer. Don't follow the crowd like sheep. Use a bicycle, walk or get a compressed air car. Better still, live near your work. Insulate your house. I could go on but that's enough for you for now.
You may be just the person we all need to pursue the mission of making this planet a greener, safer and more comfortable place to live.

Reusable bags for groceries.
Using less energy, like turning the lights off when you leave the room.
Pick up the trash at your local park with some friends
Some people say that when the next 100 years is over, the earth will be destroyed, but I don't know why, there's a website for you so you can bet on if it will be destroyed or not.

I'm afraid that's all you can do for now though. Many people don't realize that they should recycle or use reusable bags. I was driving my car, when a man at this gas station through his plastic bottle onto the ground and walked away.

There are lazy people out there who believe nothing concerns them. You can put flyers out too for suggestions on how to stop global warming

It will never happen dramatically. It will happen VERY gradually, taking several generations, so that most people will not notice it at all. Al Gore says this all the time, if you listen to him. He uses this story. If you put a frog in a pot of hot water it will jump out right away, but if you put it in a pot of cold water and then warm up the pot slowly, the frog never notices it getting hot and never jumps out. So with global warming, it will take 100 years or longer for anything dramatic to happen, and even then it will not be nothing for 99 years and then suddenly one year some big change happens, it will be teeny tiny changes every year for 100 years. Like a tenth of an inch sea level rise every year or something like that.

But I don't like his story because it implies that if the frog never jumps out that it will boil to death. This IMPLIES than global warming will boil all people in the world, and that simply is not going to happen. There is not enough coal and oil in the world to put enough CO2 into the air to make it anywhere near that hot. But Gore is counting on people THINKING that it will get that hot so that they will be scared and do what he says. It is all about him making you do what he wants. And he wants you to give money to his causes. He call this carbon offsets.

Global warming will always be a slow and gradual process. not the way hollywood movies depict it. Anyways, its never too late and every single person concerned is one more friend of the planet.

There is no specific way to stop global warming. coaol based power plants, fossil fuel burning, etc anything that releases CO2 into the air aids in the warming process.

Best way, be environment friendly, use every resource minimally, dont waste anything, and stop supporting motor sports!!

look up some environment friendly sites, even wikipedia has a lot on being environment friendly.

Here are some things that you can do:
Take public transportation instead of having your mom drive you everywhere.
Recycle paper, tin cans, glass bottles and plastics.
Don't waste water (for instance while your brushing your teeth don't let the water run the whole time).
In the winter keep your house temperature at 68 degrees and wear a sweater if you feel cold.
In the summer keep your house at 80 and sweat a little bit.
Take a 5 minute shower in the morning instead of a 10 minute shower.
Replace your standard light bulbs with the new ecobulbs.
Turn your computer off when you're not using it - same thing with your TV.
Plant a tree.

Global warming and it's effects have been happening increasingly for many years, at least my lifetime and I'm 59. Yes it is very frightening and the effects will change the world forever. Industrialization in china and India are a huge part of it. because they are coal burning nations. You can help in many. many ways and you appear to already have a consciousness about it which is the first step.Use your computer to research companies and organisations that are changing things around, and write them showing your support. Ask what you can do. You are the future voting power of this country. Listen, learn and ask. If you type in "green organizations", you come up with thousands.
It will be up to people just like you, to turn things around for future generations. welcome to the big wide world my dear.

For all the good some of these answers, you may as well dig your head in the sand.
The Earth is not going to end, we as a species are not going to die, there will be no sudden flooding from the oceans, there will be no broiling of the creatures on this planet.
Everything, assuming the worst, will be gradual and relatively minor, the Earth will adjust and it will all change again, but this will take centuries, if not millennia to happen.
There is no need to be scared, you're in more danger of getting struck by lightning while sitting in a basement, of a skyscraper.

As a geologist and an environmental consultant, I recognize more than most that much of the hype about global warming is simply people trying to push a political agenda. Warming has nice connotations for a good reason, it is generally beneficial. Take today for example. I don't know where you are but imagine that the temperature today was one degree warmer. That is the maximum effect that you will feel in your lifetime and in reality unless you are more sensitive than me, you won't feel a thing because 73 degrees feels pretty much like 74 degrees. There is very little to worry about except excess worry. Trust me, you will be just fine.

Dramatic things are already happening, look at the polar bears. Look at our carbon levels.

You at 14 can be very powerful. You need to write to all your congressmen and senators, both state and federal. You need to convince your friends to do the same. Encourage your politicians to support "green" legislation.

Encourage your parents to buy you organic make up and hair products. You'd be surprised just how many things are made with "oil" as in foreign oil. Try to buy groceries with your mom from the local farmers market. Buying things that are made locally cut down on the transportation, and there by cutting down on the carbon output. Reuse your bags, etc.

Don't feel hopeless. The vietnam war started to end when this countries teenagers all walked out of school and sat outside their schools and sang "give peace a chance".

You are powerful. And you are our future leaders. You can change the world!

Take a course in geology and you will find out that there is much more to be scared of than global warming.

For example the next ice age when much of Europe and Canada will be under miles of ice. We are living in a privileged warm period between ice ages that last 80,000 years.

The is nothing you can do to stop climate change. We don't have the technology to stop global warming or cooling or the next major extinction event caused by an asteroid strike or a mega volcanic eruption.
