The names may have originated in Spain, but most people with those names have no ancestors who ever lived in Spain. Instead, Spanish missionaries went out with the conquistadores to claim all those native souls for Catholicism. When natives were baptized, they were given new Spanish names (including surnames). The names came from one of the dozens of lands "found" by Spain. So "where the names are from" is a matter of tracking down the parents and grandparents who passed along the names. Since there are two names together, you're looking for a pair of names joined at the time of marriage. One is the father's surname, the other is the mother's maiden name.
