I thought it was about God's grace, not legalism. Besides, there are 613 commandments in the Old Testament.

I'm not an atheist. I'm a Christian. I believe in Grace becasue I can't be perfect. i'm just asking why Christians (SOME CHRISTIANS) do this. Because they do. And it's crazy-go-nuts.

So which commandment is man better off without. Thats the problem with so called Christianity is they believe they can do whatever to their fellow man and then go to Church a shout a few praise the lords and everything is ok and they can go back to what ever they were doing because all they have to do is shout it away.

There is far more to the Christian faith than just obeying the 10 commandments. However, Jesus did made it clear that observing the 10 commandments was a requirement to obtain eternal life. He also said that not one stroke of the Law would disappear.

Jesus also gave the world a "new commandment" that was to love others. If we follow this commandment, we cannot violate any of the 10 commandments. Christians are not bound by the "old Law." We do not observe any of the laws about ritual purity, etc. that were part of the Jewish faith in Christ's time.

You are right that God's grace is important in the life of a Christian but one cannot be in a state of grace if one has willfully broken God's laws. If we do that, we need to repent.

Most religions have some kind of moral law. Buddhists follow the precepts, Muslims have religious law called sharia. There are also certain customs that guide peoples behaviour when they are at worship - men cover their heads in a synagogue, people remove their shoes when entering a buddhist temple, muslims perform ablutions called wadu before prayer, catholics bless themselves with holy water when they enter a church.

Laws and customs are part of religious practice. You cannot get away from that.

309 (Level 2) Dude, read the bible and you will understand.....

The Fulfillment of the Law
17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Because people do not read the bible, in their ignorance they listen to others opinions and believe instead of doing the research for themselves... I gave you this verse, because Jesus obviously shows that the law (10 commandments) were not taken away. Jesus said I did not come to take away the Law, but to fulfill it. I guess people do not understand the definition for fulfill. Many, many people, try to do away with one of the most important commandment s the 4th,. God so clearly says to Remember it, but people continue to scoff it away. God makes it so clear to everyone all through out the bible, that He never took it away.
10 commandments Exodus 20

James 2:10
10For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

Malachi 3:6
Robbing God

6 "I the LORD do not change.

Jesus says If You LOVE me keep my commandments, let them not be burdensome to you.

In Mathew 22:40 Where Jesus says Love your God with all your heart and withall your soul and with all your mind, This is the first and greatest commandment.. The Pharisee, who had classified over 600 laws, often tried to distinguish the more important civil laws from the less important, Jesus quoted this same verse which is an Old law too, Deuteronomy 6:5,6 and Leviticus 1:18. By fullfilling these two comands, a PERSON KEEPS ALL OF THE OTHERS. They summarize the 10 commandments (Gods Moral Law.) People think that the 10 commandments were taken away, but they weren't. Where do you think that the laws we live by today came from? Do Not kill, Do not steal, Do not covet, Do not lie. Which one should we take away.. Do not kill... hmm. The first 4 God says to remember. Which commandments should we forget. Do not steal? You be the judge? the commandments are not legalism. What does it mean transgressions of the law. We would not know the law if we did not sin?

Its about the one that did follow the Ten Commandments(Jesus), there is no way any of us could, but the Law is the school master, which leads us to Christ. How could you know grace with out realizing why exactly you needed grace.

It's an easy thing to get hung up on the law if you have no concept of the spirit of the law, and how superior it is to the letter. It can take quite a leap of newfound faith to abandon the law if that is the way you were raised, and knew of no other alternative.

Christianity is about faith expressed through love, and this love fulfills the law as opposed to just keeping it. They cannot see that just keeping the law accomplishes nothing.

I didn't know that we did.

I'll add that to the list of things I didn't know I believe/don't believe in as a Christian until some yahoo atheist told me.

Lets see...I apparently believe the world is only 6,000 years old and flat, am afraid of science, don't believe in evolution or dinosaurs, want a theocracy, and now I guess I don't believe in grace, but would rather be under the law.

I try and try to teach them. I think I have made an impact on a few of them.

For some of them, it's a lot of years of learning the wrong thing that I am contesting. Especially in California, where the typical Protestant is convinced that Paul and James were saying the same thing. Bu I show them Acts 15 and 21 in order to contest their current view.

I won't give up, and if you are of a like mind, I am glad that you are here to explain it to them. ( :

i don't understand, yet i'd wager that the Ayn Rand followers in the Tea social gathering stream are atheists. a minimum of they must be, considering the fact that Ayn Rand despised faith. The Christian conservatives in the Tea social gathering probable save on with different thinkers than Ayn Rand. yet it incredibly is in basic terms my wager from examining the Bible and from examining Ayn Rand. i don't understand sufficient Tea social gathering people to declare from very own adventure.
