I wouldnt say you are content with depression, there must be something more lying beneath the surface. Is it that you are scared to move forward in something? Maybe your issues are with self esteem - low or lack of. Is there something you want to accomplish? How would you go about doing it? Maybe these are the first questions you need to ask yourself to get motivated. Then maybe you will find the answer - or the problem - whichever way you look at it. At that point, you might have a clearer direction in which to go. I dont think you are in a depression, I think you are unmotivated. ANd if you were content with it, you wouldnt be asking for advise, am I right? Take a good long look at yourself - who you are, your strengths and weaknesses, what you want - and then everything else will fall into place.

If you're saying that your lack of accomplishment is due to depression - but that it's not a bother to you, then yes, I would agree that depression is not the issue. It's a lack of motivation. Maybe your life is simply "good enough" without you having to put forth too much effort. Are others helping you keep your life going? If someone else is paying all the bills, it is easier to just stay home and watch tv than to go get a 40 hour/wk job.
Some people are also afraid of trying because they think they'll fail. They would rather "lose by default" than put in the time and effort and not succeed. Could that be the issue?
People often choose behaviors because they feel rewarded. It might not be the kind of reward you might first think of when you hear the word "reward." People are pitied and that satisfies a need for them. Even feeling helpless can be a reward because that emotion somehow releases you from being reponsible for your life.... as in "I am just so miserable. I can't even do what I know I need to do!"
Another issue could be that you're using the standards of others to dictate to you what defines "accomplishment." Maybe you could be a star sales exec if you put your mind to it, but that doesn't mean that career would be in harmony with who you really are. Could it be that happiness to you might be a simple punch-in and punch-out job that allows you time to pursue some hobby you have with complete vigor? That can be OK if that's the life you really want (provided your responsibilities don't require something else). Not everyone needs to be defined by their career. Your accomplishments can be your caring nature, your passion for a certain hobby, or your selflessness.

Does this affect your relationship with others? Does that concern you? Does it affect your ability to work, play, meet your daily needs? It is up to you, but if you were clinically depressed, everything seems very hopeless and I think you would want to get out of that. There are medications which can help with this. It may take a while to find which works best for you but could be worth the time and effort to pursue this.

People deffinately can get comfortable with their mental issues .It can become like a wall to the rest of the world the person hides behind.Like a weight problem to they can become comfortable with the way people view them because they are hurt and bitter but let it go so far they dont want to bring it up so they become content with it.So yeh same concept I think anyways but you seem like a smart person so try not to waste that . Good Luck!

Depression is an illness which can be treated by a Doctor. I was told that Depression is angry turned inward.
If you are dealing with it on your own, you have to know that some things you cannot change and move on.
If you believe in prayers, pray often, especially when the depressed feelings begin.
