I'm sure some understands the truckers hours. Are all counties training their officers to look for out of hours and cheaters? It's not like I've ever bent the rules or anything.(lol) Just wonderin'.

Thank you all for your service.

It all depends on the academy and the training program established at the agencie of said officer. In my department, we are trained by the Department of Transportaion to read and understand log book and hours. Some of the officers don't bother to look at them when they issue a traffic stop with a rig, but others do. We usually don't pull over semis for log checks or to see if they are current, we leave that up to the weigh boys. If there is an issue involving a driver that we think that we should check it we will, though (i.e. accident, bad driving habits, tired driver, etc...)

In my experience, congress changes the rules enough that I doubt most truckers know how to complete the log books properly. That is NOT a slam on truckers. The LAWS are the problem. I propose hours of service laws be abolished. I can legally work 18 hour days in an office and then drive home. If I tried to drive all day, I would be a hazard in less than 8 hours. Your ability to drive SAFELY should be the issue. The number of hours should not.

Most don't even ask for log books. Most police officers aren't trained to deal with commercial motor vehicles and handle them like any other stop. I try to get my guys more active in enforcing the things they can enforce, log book, medical cards, permits, ect.

If they have any brains, they might, but I wouldn't worry, most police aren't that savy.
