They actually tell me that not only they hope I win, but they also say that I should want to win one of those smaller big wins like "3 Blue 7" or "3 White 7s" and avoid the jackpot because I get taxed if my winnings are over $1,200?

WTF is up with that? Can you believe that those bozos have actually been saying that lately?
"IT'S A JACKPOT, THAT'S THE GOAL TO TO TRY TO WIN! OF COURSE I WILL GET TAXED ON THE WIN, BUT IT'S A BIG WIN AND THAT'S THE GOAL!"

Have they been trained to say that bogus crap lately?

No, in fact they have been trained to not tell you things like that, unless you ask about it. I think they are just trying to be nice and helpful and maybe even, dare I say, friendly!? If it buggs you out so much, ask to talk to a manager or write a comment card about it.

They're just being a good sport about it. It's just like after some sporting game event ends, the players and coaches shake hands for good sportsmanship. But perhaps the most reasonable and somewhat logical way to explaining this is that they want you to come to their casino to play again.

Having been a casino worker, I know exactly what those folks are saying.

No, they don't get trained to say that. Just voicing their own opinions.

An old saying, if you don't understand it, stay away from it. Remember, they don't give you tax refunds on your losings, so don't worry about your winnings.
