Watching you isn't bad, begging is. Stop feeding him cause hes soooooooooo cute or he will never stop begging.

If you stop feeding him from the table or your plate UNTIL YOUR DONE he will tire of watching constantly. He will still likely stay close waiting for you to get done and to give him a taste after your finished but the begging will stop. If you don't want him doing that then don't give him anything off your plate after your done. It is a habit you help formed, figure out what is ok with you and work to that point.

I have a service dog. My dog is not allowed to beg, in fact if food is dropped by her face when shes under a table she is absolutely not to touch it for any reason unless its setting her tail on fire. Most people don't have to go to this extreme but it is nice to leave food on a plate and it still be there when you get back from refilling your drink. The dog will learn the habits you reinforce.

The dog is training you and it's working!

If you want him trained then you can't give in to him. You can't have it both ways sweetheart, it doesn't work like that. Ignore his behavior when he whines and scratches, do not feed him from the table, and if you don't want him watching you at all then assert your dominance and give him a firm no or even a little spray from a spray bottle when he stares at you while you eat. If you can't discipline your dog properly you are going to be in for a long hard road of behavior problems.

You need to ignore him when he does this. And always give your dog his food after you have completely finished eating dinner. Dogs see us as pack leader. Alphas of the pack eat first and then the others eat later. If he is not just sitting and watching then you really should place him either in his crate or in another room. All 3 of my eskies watch us eat and if at any time they start behaving inapporpiately, scratching at us, barking or whinning then they are placed into another room. Usually they are pretty good about just sitting and waiting for us to get done so they can be fed.

The fact is he's going to keep watching you and scratching at you if you don't set some boundaries. The obvious answer is to put him outside or in another room, but alternatively you have to teach him that he's not allowed to jump up/scratch etc...

You can do this at first by getting him to sit still say on his bed or a rug in the room and getting him to stay and rewarding him for doing so. Then he'll learn that if he behaves himself and stays where he's meant to he'll get food. I did this with my dogs and it worked perfectly. I just kept some treats handy but now they don't even need that, they just know how to behave and that jumping up won't be tolerated.

As for the big sad cute eyes watching you, sorry but you can do much about those.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://tr.im/epOKw

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

A begging dog at the table is bad but wait until it starts imitating you and your spouse when you're in the bed doing "it".

I had a dog that almost every time my wife and I were at it would jump on the bed and start making humping actions while watching us, it took getting shoved off the bed repeatedly but finally it stopped.

Do not, do not, do not, feed your dog at the table, if you do it will beg. One other thing you might consider is that "people" food in most cases is not "good" for dogs, ask your vet.

They way for you to tell your dog who is boss is to stare him down any time he does this. Force him to leave the vicinity of the dinner table while you eat to keep him diciplined, because the moment you start giving him table scraps he will think that your going to give him some all the time.

if you've fed him before by the dinner table the dog thinks that you will always give food to him/her, usually they will ALWAYS watch you. how about putting him/her in a cage or lock the dog in a room or something (just until you finish eating)

You have be firm with him, which means to ignore him. If you keep paying attention to him, you're encouraging this bad behavior. If you live in a house, you can put him outside of the yard, so you won't feel guilty. Keep in mind, once your dog has a taste of table scraps, he may not like his own dog food.
