My passport was held for past spousal support (which I wasn't even ordered to pay, and that my ex doesn't want. It's a paper work mix up so don't lump me in with the deadbeat dads I make sure my kids get their money!)

I'm in trouble. I didn't even know my passport was held until today when my ex called me with "did we ever get this cleared up because this friend of mine..."

I'm coaching a team of martial artists in Europe and I NEED to get in the country. At this point, if I get stuck there I'm not that worried about it, my team needs me and there are kids and teens on it who need their coach!

My question: How does the passport scanning process work? As I recall, they don't scan it until you get to your destination country. Once I'm in Europe (Austria) I get a lot more confident that I can talk my way through.

Please no negativity! My team needs me and I have to make this work. PS - please tell me how you know what you are saying because I may make plans around it.

Help!!

PS - I just got off the phone with the child support agency and they admitted the error... and then told me there is nothing they can do because the offices to remove the hold are in Washington DC and they are closed!!!

I would get compensation for the air fare, lost money etc.Sue for the error since you really need to go. Also never take no for an answer make the agency allow you on the plane and be able to enter and re-enter the USA using your ID and copy of birth certificate. We are in a computer world so they can make a note in the ailrline system and passport agency .

Bugger! - wow a big bugger!
Have you rang immigration or some passport office. They must have an emergency phone line somewhere.

If the worst come to the worst and apply for another one on 'urgent' grounds, it'll still take 24 hours

I wish you luck - sorry I can't be of more help

Ahh... this is why you always need to do this in advance. Do you have a photocopy? Can you have one sent?
