Hell night? Sounds fun.

It's extremely stupid to believe something just because your mythological texts mention them. Take me for example. I'm pagan. But do I believe that the volumes upon volumes of mythology pertaining to my religion are all historically accurate? Nah. They're symbolic. No mythology (not even the Bible) is meant to be taken as anything more than allegory.

My personal reasons for not believing in hell are:

1) I don't believe in the Bible to begin with, so "because it's in the Bible" isn't a reason for me

2) Likewise, I see no reason to think that this is any more of a credible take on the after life than the ones of other religions.

3) Psychologically, it seems way more likely that it's a notion created to scare people into religion, and give a sense of satisfaction to people who see "bad" people getting away with things.

4) It has some internal inconsistencies. For example, is there a threshold level of sin that one crosses to be hell-eligible? What are the rules for that? How can it be the worst place imaginable if I consider spending eternity with Christians to be undesirable?

5) Like all mythologies, it has its origins than can be traced. "Hel" (one "l") was the name of a Norse goddess who ruled the underworld. The Hebrew world "Sheol" is also used for the underworld, but it's also used for Gehenna, a valley near Jerusalem where garbage was burned in a landfill.

So now that I've said that, why don't you believe in Valhalla, or Summerland, Hades, the Abyss of the Babylonians, or any of the other afterlife realms from other religions?

The Bible does mention 'hell' many times in various translations. The problem is that people understand different things by the word.
To the majority, it means a place that is reserved for the punishment of wicked people. (The exact form of punishment differs as well- to some, it's literal fire, to others, it is a state of alienation from God, some kind of spiritual torment). The Bible DOES NOT teach this. The belief comes from ancient pagan religions.

Yet others believe that hell is another word for the grave, where everyone who dies goes as they await a resurrection. Everyone there is in a state of unconciousness, sleeping deeply as it were.

Because there is not the slightest shred of actual evidence that hell exists, and it is a sickening and immoral idea.

The main reason for the hell myth is to scare believers into submission. But another, more sinister use for it is as a wish-fulfillment fantasy for that subset of believers who get off on the idea of anyone who disagrees with them being tortured. It's also a way to dehumanize outsiders and feel superior. The very idea shocks the conscience of any moral person who thinks hard enough about it.

Any god who would consign anyone to eternal torture, simply for the imaginary "crime" of not believing in him, is an evil god and unworthy of worship.

hell doesn't exist because it's contrary to the concept of enlightenment. on one hand, you have damned souls, and on the other, you have saved souls. it doesn't jive with the way the universe works. opposites must always resolve their differences or everything ceases to function.

it's like water... three forms ice, liquid, and steam. if you only had ice and steam, you couldn't have liquid. the system can't function without continuously flowing thru the middle ground.

Hell was not originally created for people. God wanted all people to choose Him and live with Him in heaven. He loves us all and even died for us to be with Him. That was His plan and His hearts desire. Hell was created for Satan and his demons and his followers. God doesn't send us there, He gives us the freedom to send ourselves there, if we choose to serve Satan. I'm not going there, and my heart cries out to all that choose to do so, or thinks it's a joke. It's no joke, FOR EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW AND TONGUE CONFESS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD. If you love Jesus, and believe He died on the cross to wash away your sins, and have asked Him to come into your heart, repented of your sins, Just say Lord I'm sorry for my sins, come live in my heart and be my Lord. Mean it from your heart. You will never have to worry about hell. He will hold you in His arms and you will live forever, never die. You'll just step over into heaven when your time comes. And everyone writing on here will face death someday. Then you will believe it exists. Why take the chance. I wish all of you would give God a chance, and could have the experience of Him that I have had. There's nothing like it, He's AWSOME. JESUS conquored death hell and the grave. There ain't no grave gonna hold this body down.

They don't want to admit that there is a punishment for the "fun" that they are enjoying. Admitting denial is the first step to recovery. I think that Hell night is a wonderful idea. If we learn more about the punishment, many of us would lead different lives. Christians included.

Not everyone believes what is written in some old book. I don't believe anything that is written in any book, unless there is some solid evidence I can review.
