America would probably surrender. We'd have no other choice. We're spread too thin because of Iraq.

These questions kill me because anyone who thinks that China or Russia could invade the US doesn't have the slightest inkling of the balance of conventional forces. China can't even project enough force to take back Taiwan yet and some people think they can be us here at home.
Russia is only a couple of years back in net economic growth and the military hasn't even begun to recover.
Call me again in a decade and we will see what progress these two countries have made before I worry about them.

Without blowing up the entire planet...
(1) vaporizing the planet
(2) nuke russia/china
(3) That better not happen very soon, since all combatants will suffer excrutiating losses. China & Russia have no motivation to do so anyway...

The only way that Russia could take us on is with nuclear weapons, they are not above using them against us. China with it's billion or so people could take us on but how could we beat that many people? Their standing army must be millions! The only recourse we would have against either would be to use the bombs! Once we did that; it would be W.W. 3! We don't want that but, we are powerless to stop either Russia or China from making a play for power against us. I am afraid that reason is not something that these two nations are overly supplied with so, it seems likely that if either decides to try & take us out, our only recourse would be the one none of us wants to see happen! For all of you who think that Russia doesn't have it's stock pile of Nukes, think again! As for China, with over a billion people, it has to move on someone because it is becoming too populated to support it's people.

Back in the 60s there was a joke going around about a guy who starts work at the CIA.
He goes in on his first day and his boss says "OK, the first thing you need to know about the CIA is that it is split into two groups, the optimists and the pessimists."
"OK " says the guy "How can I tell who the optimists are?"
"Well" says the boss "the optimists all get together at lunch and practice learning Russian, so they will be able to get along after the Russians take over."
"AFTER THE RUSSIANS TAKE OVER??!" says the new guy. "You mean these guys think we are going to be conquered by the Russians, and they are the optimists??!! IF those are the optimists, then who are the pessimists??"
"Oh" says the boss "those are the guys who get together at lunch to practice their Chinese."

Cold War Doctrine; M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Distruction) If the Chinese had the means to transport mass quantities of people, and they invaded any country. They would be unstoppable, there are so many people in China they would NEVER run out! They are closer than you think! Guess who is running and providing security, at the "Panama Canal" So there are Chinese troops a lot closer than people realize.

We have far superior technology they would not be able to hit us with a single nuke. We have contingency plans we can take out both of those countries with nukes in about five minutes.
The one's you should be worried about hitting us with nukes are the islamic terrorists, al qaeda and iran's terrorist groups.
It is much more likely to be hit by nukes smuggled into the U.S. than by missles and bombers.
islamists beware: we will retaliate. The middle east will be a completely uninhabited radioactive waste land if you do that.

It wouldn't be China or Russia.
And, hypothetically, if they did...there would be no response that didn't involve blowing up the planet and lacked nuclear fallout.
That's the whole point of detante, isn't it?

Well, if we're going to have doomsday scenarios, let's be realistic. Russia does not have the capability to attack the U.S. any more, and hasn't had for years. China would end up being a smoking hole.
