One major reason pupils (the little black dot in the middle of your eye) get big is because it's dark out. They widen allow light into the light sensitive cells at the back of the inside of eye.
If a guy likes a girl his eye lids may widen but unless the light in the room is dim (like over a romantic candle lit dinner), his pupils will stay the same size until they unconsciously adjust to the light in the room. Try this: have a friend look at your pupils. Then look at a bathroom light bulb for 15 sec. Then have your friend look at your pupils again. They will be noticeably bigger. Its an almost completely unconscious reaction.
