wont that practically ruin all testosterone production so a dog like a pit bull/ american bulldog/ etc will get smaller or fatter?
that happens with humans, like "bob" from fight club.

-No, neutering does not cause an animal to lose muscle mass - testosterone does not build muscles. Testosterone is also produced in the brain as well, so neutering does not remove all sources of it.
Just neuter a man and see what happens...

If neutered before full muscle development, it will cause leaner, less "beefy" dpgs, and causes longer limbs. THis will make a dog that may have been a good prospect for, say, weight pulling, unsuitable. THis occurs if you neuter before 1.5-2 years. It happened to my puppy.. My vet never told me that my pit pup, who was neutered at 14 weeks, will never be very good at weight pulling, though that is what my plans were!! I've tried and tried to bulk him up, but he looks nothing like his parents, nor does he have their power. I have heard of this occuring in other instances as well. BUT.. your dog won't get fat.. he just won't bulk up.

Yes, Bob from Fight Club, very realistic example.
No, neutering does not cause an animal to lose muscle mass - testosterone does not build muscles. Testosterone is also produced in the brain as well, so neutering does not remove all sources of it.
Neutering does not inhibit growth, even if done at an early age. The only affect it has is to slow down metabolism - this can make an animal predisposed to overweight, but is easy to control so long as feeding and exercising him properly.
This was such a 'man' question.

From my experience it dos not change a thing. My pups were neutered as soon as they were old enough.
I feed them the proper amount of food so they are not even a bit chubby.
My little Chi/Rattie mix doesn't he has been fixed, he still tries to hump the other dogs even the other male.
It did not affect the growth of the Beagle, unless that is what made him bigger and I don't think so. He should have ended up at around 15" tall and 25 lbs. He is over 20" and close to 40 lbs.
My APBT is around 55 lbs and nothing but muscle, solid as a rock.

If male dogs are neutered before they reach full maturity , loss of muscle tone can occur . However in your case that would not be a factor , as your dog was 11 already . More than likely its age related .

Nope sorry, doesn't happen.. The dog would lose muscle mass if you stopped exercising him. Neutering doesn't change body.. Besides genetics decide how big a dog will be.. Not his testicles..

We have six dogs, two females and four males, all neutered/spayed at different times. They are not fat, because we feed them an appropriate amount of food and exercise them.

Animals do get fatter when they're fixed. But it's better than having a horny dog that goes crazy any time he smells a ***** around.
