Regular (87 octane) Unleaded is the normal fuel to use unless it's one of the Steeda or other high performance versions in which case the engine may be modified enough that it requires a higher octane level. The best thing to do is to check the owners manual to see what it says (it may also be on a sticker inside the filler door). There is no need for most vehicles to use a higher, more expensive grade of gas unless the engine is modified and the only reason normally for you to move to a higher octane level is if the engine "pings" when you accelerate. However if it does that something may be off as I've never had even my 5.0 High Output ping or require any fuel other than regular.
All modern gasolines come with a blended detergent package to keep valve deposits down. One thing to point out is to refill your tank before it gets to the 1/4 tank mark. The electric fuel pump is in the tank and the fuel helps keep it running cool. If you run it too low all the time, you may have early failure and it costs several hundred $ to have it replaced. The other reason is that it cuts down on condensation from the tank heating up and cooling down which can result in early tank failure - again hundreds of $$$. Refilling at 1/2 tank is better! If you see the tanker at the gas station, pick another one. Even though they have filters, a lot of crap is stirred up in the station's storage tank and it increases the chance of it getting into your tank!
A last note is to be very careful NOT to use E85 gas unless your manual states that your car is certified as a "Flex-fuel" vehicle. Doing so can result in lower gas mileage (just wait 'til people start griping about the drop in mpg after they start using gasahol and the E85 gasahol blend) as well as early breakdown of the rubber fuel lines, unless they've been upgraded for use in which case your owners manual won't show any restrictions on its use.
Good luck and happy driving!

Unless you have a high performance version such as the Cobra, or running a programming tuner chip, regular 87 octane gas is recommended for maximum performance

Depends on what engine you have! Check your owners manual it will tell you what to use. Sometimes it written on the flap that covers the gas tank lid. Using a higher octane than what the manual calls for will only be a waste of you money, not higher performance.

87octane(regular) is fine for any unleaded car but with a higher octane you can get higher output but not that much so i would say got with the 87 or if you arent tight on cash go for the step up

If you have the owner's manual, it should be in there.
