Yeah... that's pretty whacky, alright... but THIS is the part of this hootenanny that gets me...
The god of the Abrahamic death cults of desert monotheism (Jehovah) was often 'appeased' by blood sacrifice. It is well documented in the Wholly Babble that he thoroughly enjoyed a good barbecue... and that a generous serving of blood COULD get him to change his mind. In the incident that you are referring to, though, he set up his own son/self to be cruelly tortured and suffer a gruesome and agonizing death... in a perverse public spectacle of blood sacrifice... to APPEASE HIMSELF.
Now I sure don't want to be blasphemous here... and I don't know about you... but where I come from, folks tend to think that this kind of behavior is sympomatic of some kind of mental disorder.
Oh... yeah... and BELIEVING that this sort of thing is somehow 'good' is ALSO symptomatic of some kind of mental disorder. Well... either that, or it is irrefutable evidence of brainwashing. GOT to be one or the other.
P.S.: Looking over these other answers... it is absolutely bizarre that so many people have been deceived by this depraved fiction. Don't you people get it?... you are the VICTIMS of a 1,700 year-old con game.
OK... you all need to think about this... REALLY THINK... this is how badly these people have screwed up your minds. You dismiss all of the thousands of OTHER gods and godesses as myths and superstitions. You dismiss all of the OTHER supernatural entities who are claimed to be the creator of the world and the universe. You dismiss all the OTHER stories of how everything has come to be. But get this... MANY of those entities, those stories, are LESS ridiculous that the one the one that YOU cling to.
You believe that a cosmic Jewish zombie, who is his own father, can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced, by a talking snake with legs, to eat a piece of fruit from a magical tree... (etc.)... and that there is something horribly wrong with people who ARE NOT so gullible and droolingly stupid as to believe such outrageously ridiculous codswallop...
... and you DO NOT have the mental acuity to realize that this is INSANE.

Maybe just get some more facts before asking this type of question.
1. Jesus did know it was going to happen, but he didn't necessarily WANT it to happen knowing what kind of suffering was involved. (See the Garden of Gethsemane the night he was turned in.)
2. He suffered emotionally, physically and most importantly spiritually. In order for him to save us he had to take the worlds sins, since God cannot be associated with sin the sacrifice was Jesus's to make and he was disconnected from God for the 1st time (and only time) ever.
And there are actually much more deeper meanings that would take actual research on your part to fully understand.
If you saw someone about to be hit by a car and they could die but you would survive would you step in and save them? I mean you still would have to suffer all the pain. But is it worth it? And would you actually do it?
DuckPhup as smart as your answer 'sounds' you completely missed the point. But I'm sure you must be right and everyone else is wrong.

Before Jesus, Jews had to make blood sacrifices to God. The animal that was sacrificed was given in place of the person/people who had sinned. The sacrificial animal was the best of the herd, without blemish.
Jesus lived a perfect an sinless life (without blemish). He was the final sacrifice, given in place of all those will will accept Him. Jesus took all the sin of every person ever, put it upon Himself and suffered and died.
When He rose again, three days later, He went out among the people to show that He had conquered death.
Let's say that you're the richest man in the world. You go to every creditor in the world and pay off the debts of everyone. You're flat broke now, but you know you're going to be able to make more money. Maybe you'll even be just as rich again in three days. Does that diminish the sacrifice you made by paying our debts? Does that make our debts unpaid, just because you have more money now?
Jesus' sacrifice for us was that He died here on earth to allow us to live with Him forever in Heaven.
"I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die" (John 11:25–26 KJV).

a million. Jesus replaced into in his Psychical physique, his Spirit by no potential died nor can his spirit die. To die does not advise an end of existence. dying is separation. dying is while the soul-spirit separates from the actual physique. 2. “And with regard to the 9th hour Jesus cried with a noisy voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? this is to assert, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:40 six). This cry is a success of Psalm 22:a million. Jesus had to be forsaken, because of the fact the daddy placed the sins of the worldwide on him. and thanks to that He had to “draw back” from Jesus. Jesus does certainly call the daddy "His God", however the daddy additionally calls Jesus "God" and "Lord" in Hebrews a million:8-10. Its sparkling, that the daddy isn't saying Jesus is better. Jesus calls the daddy his "God" needless to say as a results of relationship between the daddy and the Son.

Jesus really did die. He had to go through all the pain and suffering he went through in order for our sins to be forgiven. The Bible refers to him as a "lamb to the slaughter". Jesus dying on the cross was the ultimate sacrifice. The resurrection was a miracle to help people believe he was the true Son of God. It was not a trick or anything like the example you gave, God brought him back to life. He was dead for three days. Just because he came back to life doesn't mean it wasn't a sacrifice. I'm sorry if this is confusing, or doesn't answer your question properly, but i hope it helps.

Jesus had no idea if he would die or not.
Did Jesus die on the cross? That is something you can deduce for yourselves by reading the Gospel according to John very carefully.
Resurrection does not refer to coming back from the dead physically as most people believe.
Resurrection is when you put your physical life in the hands of God, giving up your physical destiny and trusting your spiritual destiny totally to God. Jesus knew that the soul was imperishable, and the body just a covering. Jesus showed his disciples by example that one's soul can control one's flesh. Jesus allowed the Sanhedrin to win by allowing the Romans to take his body because he didn't want ownership over anything physical from this world.
Jesus attained true detachment, through his action, that is important. Jesus had to trust totally in God that he would be saved, that is the resurrection (when you put your theoretical belief's to test).
Can you give up your family, your job, your relationships, your offspring and your possesions, wealth and power to serve God? To find resurrection, one must actually give up material attachment and all need to have ownership over anything. God made everything, so everything belongs to God. One must offer everything to God to find salvation.
Abraham chose to give his son as sacrifice because his son meant everything to him, and was all he had achieved physically upon the earth. God did not allow the sacrifice, just as in Jesus' case. It is the act of offering physical/mental sacrifice without expectation of being let off: That is required to become a son or daughter of God.

God didn't have to give us his only begotten son , he could have let us all go to hell forever as the payment of our sins . Through Gods infinite mercy he gave us ( sacrificed ) his Son to become sin for us on the cross suffering so much , shedding his innocent blood and dieing on the cross then spend three days and nights in hell . That's not a sacrifice ??

Being beaten with a catonine tails with 39 stripes, have your beard plucked, spit on , a crown of thorns crushed into your head and nailed to a cross plus taking on the sins of all the world when you are perfect, is a sacrifice.

The sacrifice was that Jesus lived as a man on earth without sin. He was presented with temptations, but resisted and died perfect. And he died a terrible, humiliating, excruciatingly painful death. And God, his father, had to watch it all happen.
THAT's where the sacrifice is, brother.
