bottom line... with the new C.O.T. there is only so much you can do. If you have already got some of it figured out there is no reason to get out there and run just to run. Their options are very limited as to what they can change on the new car, so the 24 team said they got enough figured out in the first session. to add to it you have the restricted power that the engine can produce... so there is not much you can play with there either... so they get to Dega and nascar says "Here is your can, here is your parts, here is your plate, see you later." Not much you can do at that point but see how she runs!
Hamlin had to sit out the first 15 mins and then decided that he wouldnt go out after that 15 mins was up.

Hamlin was not able too for the 1st 15 minutes due to being assessed this penalty for slam drafting-- so he sat the rest of it out not wanting to wreck or tear his car up. Gordon didnt so he wouldnt tear his car up in the final practice. The TV Announcers said the COT was hairy and squirrely in the draft--So these drivers chose to sit out practice to avoid a possible wreck.

They practiced.....
Gordon only ran one practice session...he didnt go out the 2nd time cuz they were good enough in 1st practice.
Hamlin was warned by Nascar officials over radio contact to stop driving so aggresively, he was bump drafting other drivers and bumpin them too hard....he did not listen soooo they sat him out for the 1st 15 min. of second practice....they had damage on the front end from his bump drafting so they spent pretty much most of second practice fixing it...
GO HARVICK & RCR!!!!

Did you see the 1st practice ? I don't think I would have went back out myself !!! Seriously..you got what you got [off the hauler] why risk it ??? Bout the only thing to gain,by going BACK-out,is a tore-up racecar !!
