Well you must be happy but be sure not to insult your friend but your achievement should rather be used positively to set an example to lead him to some encouragement to give his best on the next opportunity. Though he didn't studied well, for sure he will be feeling bad for not doing well. He might be happy for your success as his friend but unconsciously he could have some bad feelings as well so as a friend you must be supportive and play a role to encourage him.
Well, the reverse of the situation you are describing actually happened to me and my friend long ago. We reviewed together for an "international" exam and she was studying so hard while I was always studying just "so-so" and sleeps most of the time during the review hours. We took the exams and had the result.......I passed while she did not make it. Well, it is so sad for her that she cried saying it was so unfair. Well, may be true but I was lucky to pass so all I have to do is to give her all the encouragements and all my support- I even spent much time studying with her for her benefit.
Well, be there with him to encourage your friend to do better next time, that would be the best you can do.

I sometimes do not study for exams, and when i see a friend of mine get a higher grade than me, then that motivates me to study for the next exam. You should never feel sorry for someone if they didn't study for an exam.

make sure i studied hard for the next test and tell him he might want to open his book once in a while.
