And, are they scared of ICE or the lack of job offers, since employers now get jail time ?

Way to go! A lot of thoughtfull and honest responces and variety of viewpoints.
Most seem to agree that really there isn't very much "self-deporting" going on as there is just moving from place to place.
michael m, - no names and a few others touch on the fact that jobs are the main reason they come and remain here.
Hmmm. How about paying them to leave? Double the fine for people who hire illegals and use part of it to pay for the deportation cost and give the rest to each illegal on their way out. OMG! the illegals would start turning in their employers just to get the bounty money and free paid transportation home!

I dont think illegals will leave that easily, there are to many government programs for them to live of the taxpayers. If the government quit giving them handouts and punished people that hired them ,then maybe! The simple answer would be to either slap huge fines on employers that hire illegal aliens or imprison the managers and owners of such companies. However, that cannot be done. Many big firms, like homebuilders, simply use subcontractors to perform a lot of their labor. They can wash their hands from any wrongdoing because they can honestly claim that they do not hire any illegal aliens. That is true because it is their subcontractors that do the work.

I don't think their are self-deporting as much either moveing to a different location. Some are returning temporary to Mexico because of less construction in my area. After taking jobs from American construction workers by cutting wages building has slowed way down so they head home till things pick up again
Until greedy. employers start getting hit hard with fines or jail time!

I hope so. I feel that "self-deporting" is the only real answer to the problem. If you make them go home on their own accord it solves a lot of ills without costing the US much. It's a win for the US.

As more ICE raids are occurring, their have been more illegals leaving. As jobs start to dry up that number will increase

No, they have to many working on their behalf like La Raze, ACLU, and many others, who repeatably tell them that it is not only their right to be here, but the are doing the us a big favor by being here, and of course we pay the tab both in our way of life and pocket books

As long as some cities/states are classified as "sanctuaries," illegals will probably just bounce around the country, rather than self-deport to where ever they came from.

Yes it's starting to gain momentum, and this is great news
There's also less coming, less border crossings

I wish I was at the border with high-zoom binoculars (running back and forth 2000 miles) to give you precise numbers

Yes they are deporting to florida, if you gou there you'll see a lot of them working on contruction sites, lawns, roofers and a lot of kids on all the schools, not to mention how quickly they became pregnant to get benefits from your taxes. A lot of agencies are helping them because is a lucrative business, just go online and click "ayuda al inmigrante en florida" lawyers, lobbyists, media, is not about you anymore is about $$$$

Sure would be nice. But as someone already mentioned, they are probably just going from one place to the next within the U.S.

I can only hope so. But I have more faith ignorant Mexicans who stage anti-American protests and the Mexican president speaking out against the USA for actually enforcing our laws to create enemies for themselves than I do in our leaders in doing something about it.
