They didn't just cut them off when my dog was neutered....they removed the testicles, but left the skin. I call it getting fixed because it's an easy term everyone can handle.

And there is a problem with the pet population...so essentially, those of us that care enough to have our animals "fixed" are helping to fix a problem.

It's called castration. I think "fixed" is just a common word as some don't know the medical term and some find the word testicle offensive.

I always assumed it referred to the fact that being able to have young was seen as a 'problem' and therefore neutering was seen as getting the problem 'fixed'. But yes, it could be because people are under the misconception that tubes are tied or something during any neutering process.

Either way it's a silly term, it implies that something is broken!

You are fixing the problem of unwanted offspring.
Its the "final solution" to the "baby puppy problem".

It's just a euphemism, like "putting to sleep" means euthanasia.

because it makes things more convient for humans.
it's "fixing" the problem of producing more puppies the we "think" the world "doesnt need"
