IGR stands for Insect Growth Regulator. An IGR is a chemical that kills all stages of an insect lifecycle i.e eggs and pupae as well as adult fleas.

Many chemicals are supposed to be IGRs, but I only know of one spray that does actually kills the eggs and pupae, and that's Skoosh. www.skooshthefleas.com. This is because eggs are pretty impervious to any chemical - Skoosh actually kills them by mechanical action, it coats everything in a silicone type stuff, so the adults basically suffocate and the pupae and eggs cannot develop further.

I also recommend Indorex, Acclaim and Staykil, these all are good flea-killing sprays but, as the first answerer said, you will need to treat twice with these to make sure you've got any leftover hatched eggs. Vacuum the day after treating, then repeat the process a week later.

For your puppy, get something from a vets if you haven't already - if the pup is under 8 weeks of age it will need to be Frontline spray, this is the only thing safe for young pups, it can be used on pups from 2 days of age.

Don't bother getting anything from a pet store, these are fairly guaranteed not to work, and the topical treatments are also quite likely to be dangerous even for an adult animal.
