I was on the pill but ended up with a blood clot in my eye. As a diabetic I have to be careful about getting pregnant. I looked into the IUDs but they don't suggest them for women who have not had children yet.

I agree with billing's method, I'm not recommending pills. But, in my opinion, you'd better have a child before you take any medicinal/ artificial birth control.
