Searching thru questions here, I've noticed that similar questions have been asked, but everyone's pointing to aftermarket faceplates that don't have the automatic air controls. I have 1996 Sable with the automatic air controls and have been searching for months with no luck at all on a replacement face plate... The old radio died, but replacing it (for $210) with an OEM (used) original model isn't what my daughter really wants, she wants something with a CD player or MP3 sound.
Unfortunately, it looks like we might have to buy an old OEM radio and live with it since I can't seem to find answers anywhere?
Anyone at all got any good ideas where to look or what to do ?

I know that the metra mounting kits have the controls on them. You can visit their website at www.metraonline.com. You can buy the metra kits at circuit city or on ebay for cheaper. good luck!!!

If you are speaking of digital climate controls, I don't believe anyone makes a kit for that. A Sable is the same as a Ford Taurus. The only kit I know of is for the ones with analog climate controls and they cost about $100.

If you are willing to go analog, find out from the dealer what parts, if any, would be required to convert your digital control panel to the analog (digital was an option). If they say no particular parts are required, just the different panel, then I would see no reason why you couldn't purchase the after-market analog kit.

Also, the radio electronics are in the trunk of that car on the left side, behind the carpet. You will have to run the wires from there up to the dash, including the antenna cable. Most kits come with the long wiring harness for this.

Check with a local auto stereo installer in your area. You may be able to replace the face plate, and install an after market stereo like your daughter wants.

good luck.
