Your scanner's documentation should tell you how to do this. Open help.

Usually, you place the document on the scanner's glass, click Scan, and indicate if you want the result to be an image or document. See what you have to do to "scan to a Word document" or scan with OCR (optical character recognition).

When it reads into Word, immediately Save As to a file.
You will have to carefully proofread. Unless the original document is pristine and very clear, every microscopic mark will scan as a ~ or some other thing. Sometimes b will look like h - you get the picture.

After you have proofread it, File, Save, then go on and do your thing.

You can use an OCR (optical character recognition) program to scan a document as text. However, these programs are not 100% accurate, so careful proofreading is a must! The resulting text may then be copied and pasted into a Word document. There may be a better method for this, but this is the only one that I am personally aware of.

Make sure it does, because its the only way to do it. Otherwise, the document gets scanned as an image file. OCR allows you to bring it in as a document. Some are better than others.

I have had several scanners and they all have allowed this. Ask before you buy. Good luck
