If you live in Phoenix, there is a Penzey's Spices on the corner of Hayden and Osborn in Scottsdale. That's where I and all of my friends from culinary school buy all of our spices. Great stuff, and super cheap!

I usually stock up when I get to the "big city." If you live out in the wilderness, you can mail-order spices. Or see if there are any herb growers in your area -- Arizona does have some.

This might get you started, if you want herbs:

Penzy's spices are very high quality and long lasting. penzys.com. If your spices go "stale" before you use them, you might want to buy your spices whole and grind them as you use them with a coffee grinder.
