Tapeworm segments are what you are seeing. You can buy and over the counter allwormer from your vet give to your cat and then in 6 weeks time give a tapewormer this will kill the cycle.

The tapeworm is contracted form the ingestion of fleas so flea your cat at the same time.

Treat ALL animals in the family.

Yes there is a small possibilty that members of your family could contract this also (though small chance) talk to your pharmistist about worming the family for tapeworm.

This doesn't sound serious. Being a vet myself, I recommend waiting to see if any other worms show up in later feces. If they do, make sure to get a sample and call your local veterinarian. Sometimes the meds used for preventing heartworm don't prevent other types of worms, that aren't as serious, like roundworms. (These look like long white spaghetti, and there are likely to be at least four) If it looks like roundworms, let your vet know. Roundworms are parasites that live and grow in the stomach of the victim, and feed on nutrients around it. If the worm isn't getting enough nutrients, it will just be flushed out in the feces. Humas even get these worms occasionally, and thay usually don't do any harm. Keep an eye outfor more worms, but it's most likely nothing serious!

Do yourself a favor and get your cat to the vet for a deworming shot or pill. They have shots that kill all the kinds of worms. Over the counter stuff only kills certain types of worms and there are several varieties your cat might have. Just be sure and get the shot because it gives you peace of mind.

Are they the small white worms that dry like grains of rice?

If so, what you are seeing are tapeworm segments. Kitty can get them from ingesting fleas and from also eating their "catch" if they are hunters.

I have attached a couple of links for tapeworms with illustrations for you can compare with what you are seeing.

There is an OTC deworming product called Tapeworm Tabs and I have attached a couple of links about them. The drug used in these tabs are FDA approved.

If these are tapeworms, kitty's will not affect you or your family. Tapeworms do affect humans, but we get them from under cooked infected meat.

Hope this helps.

Purrs for you and kitty.
