You have the software... Yahoo messenger, don't you have it install onto your computer. It's free whenever someone emails you through using yahoo the email it should pop up on your screen on the bottom right.

Many email providers offer software that can do that.
Google has Gmail Notifier, Yahoo has several tools. (Those are the only email providers I use, but I don't use the notifiers.)

msn messenger does that it pops up from bottom right hand corner just search windows plus! live or windows messenger on Google then download it and it will tell you when you get email

if you have a yahoo account u can use the yahoo widgets and you can find a widget that will do that, and it is free. also if you use the opera internet browser, they have widgets as well that you can use to do different things like an e mail checker.
