I lent my car to a friend who I thought had a license. In fact she lied to me saying she did have a license. She gets pulled over in Valencia, Ca. for speeding. Turns out she has no license and they arrest her & impound my car. They place a 30 day hold on my car. The LASD said the only way to get the hold off early is if the person who was driving the vehicle was to get a license & show them (LASD). I can't get in contact with the driver now. Because of her my car has a hold on it even though its not even hers. I understand the car getting impounded but not the 30 day hold. I guess the only crime was driving with out a license.

Yes, the 30 day imnpound law has been on the books since the mid-90's. You, as the owner, are responsible for ensuring that the people you allow to drive your car, do in fact have a valid license.

That being said, you can call the LASD station that impounded your car and ask for a hearing with the impound officer and explain the situation then. No guarantees, but it beats waiting for 30 days.

And as someone else said, your car was used in a crime, it is a misdemeanor to operate a motor vehicle in California without a valid license. If there is no license, an expired or suspended license, then the car can and almost always is impounded.

Good luck.

The car WAS used in a crime. Driving with out a license is a crime, not just a traffic offense. Your friend could (although not likely unless she has committed the offense before) get jail time.

Nope, no loop holes. not in elementary terms do they save the motor vehicle for 30 days, yet they fee a on a regular basis fee for keeping the motor vehicle. you are able to't get it out, besides - it fairly is not your motor vehicle. in elementary terms dad can get it out. And it fairly is going to fee him a especially penny, too.

do they charge daily impound fees? If so, that probably explains the 30 days impound more than anything.
