It is healthy to use Borax on dogs to kill their fleas, leaving it in the fur for a few minutes while you watch them and make sure they dont eat it, right?

I've said this on my previous post, I do not trust/like any of the commercial flea killers, Frontline, Advantix, etc. You can reccomend it as much as you want, but I won't do it again. I think it's about as bad as Purina. Guess I won't use Borax either.. off to find another ridder for the buggies.

You put the borax on the floors not the dog. And it doesn't hurt the dog when it is on the floor.

Use frontline on the dog.

So let me get this straight - you don't like Frontline, but you're happy to put BORAX on your dog??! It says Keep Away from Animals on it!!!! It shouldn't even be used on the carpets, never mind actually on the animal.

Ah right, yes I answered your previous question- you've only used Frontline bought online. You have to be aware that a lot of stuff online is not the genuine article, it happens a lot - I really think you should get some Frontline from an actual vets so you know you're actually getting Frontline. There's a real possibility you've never actually tried Frontline at all! Honestly, it's very unusual for an animal to have a reaction to Frontline, I've never actual known it myself. Frontline is the safest product there is that actually works, so if your dog can't manage that, or Revolution or Advantage, I'm afraid he might be doomed to fleas. You can wash him in things like Dawn, this will remove to fleas actually on him, but he will just keep getting reinfested.

Borax is probably the last, last thing you should use, short of acid.

Skye Blue 05.... Do you not realize that everything you put on and in your pet for fleas is a pesticide and a chemcial/toxin? Frontline, Advantage, Heartgaurd, Everything you buy at the vets office to combat fleas.. POISON/PESTICIDE/CHEMICAL/TOXIN.
It's all poison.. what do you think? It is killing fleas with love?

That said.. I would not put Borax on the dog. I have sprinkled it on the carpet like carpet fresh and left it over night and swept it up. I have also put it under cushions on the furniture and swept it up the next day. It does kill fleas.
I would suggest you buy a capstar and frontline from the vet. It is not that much more then a box of borax. If your dog is 50 pounds it would be under 10 bucks for both. Then treat your carpets and furniture with the Borax.

Here is some info on Flea and Tick killer for those of you who apparantly don't think they are pesticides and toxins/chemicals. And by the way... It can ALL be harmful and it is for MANY animals.

And .. I would NEVER take my dog to a groomer or anywhere that was going to DIP my dog in poison. The spot on control is bad enough. Dipping is not something that is done by anyone anymore because it is to dangerous. Not only for your pet, but for the dipper. It should never be done.
Here is one testimony of why:

Play it safe, get some neem spray or put a few drops of neem in some dog shampoo. This is from a tree form India. It has been used as an insect repellent for thousands of years. If you have fleas in you home or yard (if your dogs there the fleas are there) than go to the farm store and get some diatomatios (sp) earth. sprinkle it on the carpet and grass and stuff and that will kill all of those fleas as well. These two products are safe for pets and children and have none of the side affects of the commercial top spot treatments.

Find neem oil at the website below or from a natural grocer or natural pet store

Not at all. Borax is a poison. The end. You should never use poison or anything for fleas with pesticides in them on your pets. It can make them sick and could leave to their death.

I wouldn't do that if I were you, it could seriously hurt or even kill your dog. I would use Frontline or take him/her to a grooming shop and have them dip him/her.... Hope this helps....
