For 32 years I was certain that He does not exist, and now, through a series of events that go well beyond coincidence, I believe that He does.

I contemplated daily that the God of the Bible does not exist. That being said I do believe in a higher power/Deity. I just don't accept what Christians have turned that Deity into. Its funny how God according to the bible is all knowing and all seeing and yet to this day Christians will make their God sound human and incapable of all things when faced with a decision as to whether or not things they don't understand can be gifts from a higher power. Anything they don't understand about the supernatural or gifts of the spirit "Has to come from Satan" there's no other way to explain it! When I was a Christian I was taught that ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE through God. When did that change? When did man kind get the right to determine what is of a higher power and what is not? Something is only "evil/negative" if it is used in that fashion. As a believer in a higher power, and more than just a single God I believe we are all capable of anything we set our minds to because of the incredible beings we were created to be. It is our closed-mindedness, our insecurities and our own ignorance that keeps us from the Divine and keeps up stunted in our spiritual growth.

Once I almost turned away from God, the key word almost.
I would like to think I can get along with everyone if we
respect each others opinions. However, when some
Christians and some non believers start judging and
say we should all be like this and that, then I say okay,
go your way and I go my way. We are not all the same.
I believe in God but haven't been to church in a long time
due to some people, the key word some.
I also do not come to R&S often these days. Take Care.

EnVoid,
I nearly died when I was in High School from not taking care of my diabetes and I ended up in a coma. The Near-death experience that happened as a result and the days that I spent in the Critical Care area gave me the knowledge that there is a GOD. I spent many years in between searching and reading but was led to Christianity by an older couple. My wife and I have been married 32 years but we became Christians about twenty years ago. I believe that I am so fortunate that they came and spent the weeks studying with us. Have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks,
Eds

Oh yes, I've gone through a lot of struggles on whether God does or doesn't exist.

But every time I would come to the conclusion that he doesn't... then I ask myself how did I get here? Why am I here? And why do I feel like there is such an emptyness in me?

Now that I believe... I know the answer to all 3 of those questions.

you should read about Mother Teresa's letters, just now made public (this story had a Time magazine cover in the US last month)

she lived her entire life hoping for the sense of God's presence which she experienced for just a few weeks, the other times in her life, and the entire time she was in India, she felt abandoned

I'm not saying that she doubted God's existence, just how interesting it is that someone so famously devoted to her calling actually felt alone the entire time

Are you kidding? I was an agnostic or atheist,,basically in God's eyes, they are the same,,,unbelievers......for 37 years.....so, when I say, I believe in God with all my heart,,,you can take it to the bank. What a stupid *ss I was for so many years....if you have any brains at all, and use them, you cannot deny that God exists...what an arrogant person I use to be...Thank God I finally figured it out before it was too late....I pray you do too.

Well no one has ever come back from the dead to tell us what it is like, so don't worry about it. Just live a good life, and be good to other people. That's the important thing.

Of course. I once gave up and decided it must be true that he doesn't exist. I tried to believe it, but it lasted only two days.

I felt so empty and depressed in those two days, I couldn't bear with it.

Actually I was silly and forgetful, because I had experienced his love and miracles so many times before. Like this one: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvX5sUgMTVNO.11dH.fuL3zty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20070617055115AAIQzhe

Much more often than once. However, I have decided after careful consideration that He does exist.
