God clearly made a massive mistake with his creation of Lucifer, who is a perfect being, that was tainted by evil. Clearly the being was not perfect since it was tainted by evil and turned evil. He was susceptible to turning evil. For some reason that doesn't scream perfection to me.

You don't have to be perfect to judge the acts of God james, You simply need to use the Mind he has supposedly given you to follow a line of Logic and the branches within it. Although it's difficult for a individuals who base their beliefs on illogical thought to accomplish this task, which is why i don't blame you for being unable to grasp the concept of a perfect being.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around a the concept of a perfect being. Since I am so far from perfect myself, it's a very hard thing to do. Obviously you must be perfect and nothing you have ever done has ever gone wrong, since you are so capable of judging the actions of God. My congratulations to you on that accomplishment.

My own thought is that God's plan was perfect, however, his creations are not. Therefore, his creations corrupted his perfect plan and made it necessary to implement corrections. However, this is just a theory from someone who isn't perfect in any sense of the word and is obviously flawed. I guess I'll just have to wait till I meet my creator to find out the truth of the matter.

Edit: Well, at least you recognize sarcasm when you see it.

Seriously though, I suggest you read the book of Job. My diatribe is a paraphrase of God's response to Job on exactly the question you asked. I mistakenly assumed you would recognize it as such. My appologies for that.

The best answer to this question was a few weks ago by Don H.:

“In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.”

It makes the most sense in the story of god & the devil. Christians goofed it all up in translation!

Perfect is whatever God says it is. Where in the Bible does it say Lucifer was a perfect being?

First of all, I don't believe in God. Second, if he were real and perfect he would SEE TO IT that the gospel was preached to each and every one of us in a way that we could understand it. He sure would not leave the job to fallible humans to teach the contradictory message.

God didn't make the mistake, Lucifer did. Evil is the absence of God just like darkness is the absence of light and death is the absence of life. It doesn't exist as a force on its own. (It's not possible for something to be dead if it was never alive, and it's not possible for something to be more dark than total darkness - a total absence of light.) Did God make a mistake in giving us each a mind of our own? Should he have programmed you to love him? Or do you think that would have cheapened his relationship with you? I think it would. I think that if God had created us and the angels with no choice of how to behave, forcing us to always love him and live in righteousness, THAT would have been a sign of imperfection. And unrighteousness.

no, your right. The Chistian God could never be called perfect. God is more "human" than perfect.
