we just adopted her. she's very affectionate; she looks healthy (though lean), is very active, drinks plenty of water, shows some interest in food-- eats a bite or two (or just sniffs it) and then goes off! i have no experience with kittens (only cats); this is the third day. she did show more interest in raw meat, which we gave her (about one cube of lamb). we ran out of that and plan to go get some more, but meantime it seems she would eat high quality wet or dry food. the shops here dont have high quality wet food for kittens, only cats. what is the difference? calories? i plan to get some dry kitten food in case that high calorie stuff makes a difference, along with some more fresh raw meat. but anyway, is this normal kitten behavior? how much do they eat? is one kind of raw meat better than another? and has she been eating enough?

I don't recommend Hill's. They were among the group buying cheap contaminated meat from China. This caused kidney death in a lot of cats.

Also, conventional commercial cat food is not good (e.g. Friskies). They use animal by-products.

Cats and kittens love raw meat! Chicken and organic beef and turkey are the best - you might want to steer away from raw fish and ground beef (more likely to be contaminated).

As for good kitten foods, check http://www.petfooddirect.com and you might find some good canned (wet) varieties there.

I would NOT mix dry and wet food, though. My vet told me when you get dry kitty kibble wet it can activate bacteria on the surface and be potentially harmful. It's meant to be stored and served dry.

Well ,I had to take care of some kittens since they were justa couple of weeks old. At first I just gave them formula and they all fought for it (they were 4). After a month I started giving them Friskies, the ones that come in a can(for cats they dont have any for kittens) the only thing they have for kittens is dry food. They ate that wet food like that was the last thing they were going to eat. They eat plenty, each cat ate aproximately about a fourth or third of the can and ate about every 6 to 8 hours. You should always keep water and dry food for them to eat so you wont have to worry about them getting hungry. I gave 3 kittens away and the other one ran of to my neighboor. hope this helps

Hi,you need to give her kitten food if you are giving her wet food, supermarkets do a good selection. When I got my kitten in April I bought different selections and different brands to see which he liked. It's good that you are giving her dry food as well. With the dry food leave a little out for her all the time that's what I did and give her half of a small tin only of wet meat every other day.To encourage her to eat the wet food try giving her small amounts out of your hand. It's important to give them kitten food because they contain all of the nutrients that a growing kitten needs to grow up healthy and strong.I feed my kitten with "Hills Science Plan " dry food,it's recommended by vets and considered one of the best. You can buy it over the counter from any vets.Good luck.

Bet she's cute! Please don't feed her raw meat! Its not good for their little stomachs, too strong and hard to digest. If theres no kitten food near you, mix the adult cat food with a little bit of warm milk ( ours is fine ) and some dry cat biscuits that have been soaked in hot water to soften them. Some kittens won't touch cat food at all ( strange but true ) and if your little un is in that bracket, then boil up some chicken thighs, rremove the bones and mix the chicken with a little bit of plain boiled rice. They don't need too much food really, i just leave a dish down all day with food in it and if its not finished by night time i throw it away and start again the next day. I find by doing this, my cats have never been bin raiders or scavengers. Some tinned fish such as sardines in tomato sauce mixed with plain, boiled rice will get her taste buds going too ha ha. You've had cats before and the principle is just the same, just less! She will also need a lot of attention as being away from her mum is bewildering at first but she'll soon settle. Good luck.

A two month old kitten should be eating wet food in the morning and before bed....but best bet would be to call your vet.
