He has been given ample opportunity to learn the correct spelling. I refuse to answer any more of his silly questions until he spells "atheist" correctly.

The word derives from the Greek word "theos." It is the source of the word "theology" and "theist." Note the position of the "e." The addition of the prefix "a" does not change this.

It matters because language is intimately involved with thinking. If we are sloppy with language, we will be sloppy with thinking, as well.

Actually, if anybody wanted to do an extensive review of this, I am quite certain they would discover that the Jesus Camp crowd makes a disproportionately high number of spelling and grammatical mistakes on this forum. The same is true of our President, an individual who had the benefit of an Ivy League education, yet he mangles syntax and misuses words worse than virtually any high school drop-out laborer I've ever worked with. As you note, sloppiness in the use of language is a dead give away for sloppiness in thought.

It relatively relies upon on the call. in this area of the Atlantic, the popular spelling is Alison and we Brits are plenty extra conservative. Over right here, we tend to spell issues traditionally- i understand one lady stated as Lauryn it fairly is seen weird and wonderful as human beings right here do no longer likely think of roughly mutating names. So i might say selection spelling does not be popular in Britain. although, i might additionally say that it fairly is okay if it does not mess with phonetics as I observed a question the different day asking if we prefer Melissa or Melisa. those 2 names may be suggested completely otherwise via fact of that lacking s via way the English language works. yet another component, a popularity is plenty extra probably to be popular in spite of the fact that if it relatively is easy to spell and pronounce, this is why issues like James and Mary have stood the try of time the place i do no longer see Aaliyah, Abcde and Nevaeh (to take some examples) doing a similar.

Has Ryan done this?
Yes
Is he using the web site for other purposes?
No
Whats the problem, this site is called Yahoo Answers not Yahoo Spelling Contest. So who cares what way he spells Atheist. We know what he saying - his question is not confusing, its basic straight forward English. It might not be perfectly spelled, but we know what he is saying.
Nothing is more annoying than a busy body bitching about someones spelling.
Agghh!

"I" before "E" except after "C", or when sounding like "ay" as in "neighbor" and "weigh". Unless it's weird. Or an atheist.
Or a number of different words, which essentially throws that whole "I" before "E" thing out the window entirely.
