There's no way to judge how the temperament will be just by the sex of the cat.
There are sweet and aggressive females...and the same with males. Best way is to just play with the kittens you're interested in and see which ones you're drawn to by the way they interact with you. A good kitten is curious, playful and sociable.
I always choose a cat by whether they bond with me, and also by how they look (their color). I'm a sucker for a tabby :-)
If you decide to spay or neuter your pet, that will eliminate both heat cycles (in females) and spraying/roaming (in males).
Best of luck finding your new cat buddy!

I am not a cat fan unless they are outdoor cats. But all cat fans should know that male cats spray and I don't know if neutering helps. Females do go into heat but since cats always lick themselves it's not likely that you'll ever notice it.
So I would probably go with a girl unless it's going to stay outside. In that case, a male would be better.

If you're worried about neutering, trust me, it's not a terribly big deal for male cats. Females, however, have to have a major surgery to be spayed and require a much longer downtime after surgery, not to mention more care during their recovery. Cats that are not spayed do go into heat and bleed every so often. If this is your main concern in getting a cat, I would suggest a male.

Male cats tend to be friendlier than females.....neutering is recommended for both as it also tends to calm them and 'sweeten' their disposition. Toms and Queens can be very territorial and aggressive. Queens go into season and are very, very noisy when they do, yowling constantly. There is a small amount of clear discharge. Both will develope the unwanted habit of spraying, which is marking their territory, and the smell is difficult to get rid of. Neutering also prolongs the life of both sexes. It tends to be more expensive and a little more involved when neutering a female compared to a male....I hope that helps.

I can't look at the pictures, but if the cat has a lot of white and/or grey, a good boy and girl cat name would be Snow Shoes. It's really cute and is something that could stick with the cat besides calling it tea cup. Another name for maybe a black cat would be Midnight or Milky Way. And a good orange cat name would be Carrot.

Males should be neutered, but females should be spayed. Either one you get, they should be fixed.
Anyway...I don't really have a preference of gender. I chose the kitties that had the personalities I was looking for (both happen to be female).
Males have the tendency to mark their territory, or "spray". Even after they're neutered, there is still a possibility of spraying.

If you get a male, you will most likely have to neuter it so it does not 'mark its teritory'.
If you get a female, if you don't want blood stains on your floor about every month, you will need to spay it.
Neutering cats costs less than spaying! You will have to neuter/spay the cat early if you don't want it doing these things.

Girl: they get mean, they like to be the only one. Doesn't need you, likes to be on its own.
Boy: stay a pal. Cuddly, cozy, and tv watching buddy. They dont care if there are lots of cats, they need you.
I'd pick boy, but if you like to have only one cat, who doesn't need you very much then pick female.
Of course not all cats are the same, some cats have different personalities, but that is what they are usuallly like.
Please note, once the males hit a certain age they will spray. Get them fixed as soon as you can so your furniture and walls and stuff dont smell bad!
Have fun with your new cat!

Irrespective of which you choose you must have it fixed.
The female so it doesn't get pregnant and the male so it doesn't spray.
Every cat has a different personality and it's impossible to say which it better. I have a female who it stuck up but full of character and a male who is a gorgeous big soppy lump.
