I am planing on buying an audio system with mocrophoes and speakers etc to practice my singng but I have no idea what else I need. I want to be sure before I make the purchases can you help? amplifiers....?

Is this just for practice, not performing? If so an inexpensive PA setup from Radio Shack will probably do. If you need to add instruments like electric guitar or keyboard your rquirements icrease but still don't have to get too expensive. I do recomend getting good mis's though. Remember the two mechanical components mic's and speakers will make the most difference on sound quality. Of course any music store will be glad to sell you whatever you are willing to pay for.
For singing the speakers need to have good midrange and I would avoid speaker stacks with multple drivers.

For TV in a small room: 5.1 surround sound system with small satellite speakers. For any size room, music sounds a lot better on a home stereo system than it does on a surround sound system.
