All states I'm familiar with have laws that carry different penalties for different amounts of a drug. The more drugs, the stiffer the penalty.
You didn't say where he was from, but you should be able to do an online search and find the state laws online.
A general rule of thumb with marijuana plants, they consider each plant the equivilent of 1 pound. It doesn't matter how big the plant is, if it is alive, they figure 1 pound. That is because that is the average yield of a mature plant.
8 pounds would be quite a bit, but if he has a clean record, I am going to guess he is going to be charged with a felony, but they will probably plea it down to a misdemeanor. He will pay a fine and court costs, and spend less than a year in jail.
With numerous priors and failed drug counselling, he is going to have a fight on his hands to get this dropped to a misdemeanor.

Depends upon the state. In Arkansas it carries a 3 to 10 year sentence, but probably probation for a first felony offense.

Depends on where he lives and what his record is. If it were just possession it would be a misdeamenor and would be a schedule VI. The fact that he was manufacturing could make it a bit higher. His attorney or your local D.A.'s office should be able to tell you what it carries. I'm with the rest of the crowd on the fact he should now be your EX boyfriend...dump the loser unless you want to go down with him in the future.

If this is his first time in trouble that will say alot on how much time he will get and it depends on what charges he either pleads guilty to or is found guilty of...depending on your state as well will also determine...they say things are the same but they aren't! Here is a good site for you to check out ...if he decides to take a plea bargain which they will offer one to him that would also make another difference...he may just have probation and drug court which are like classes he has to go to and submit to UA's...it all depends...

The sentence will vary depending on the state. As a guide, here is the law for the State of Washington:
"A controlled substance classified in Schedule I or II which is a narcotic drug or flunitrazepam, including its salts, isomers, and salts of isomers, classified in Schedule IV, is guilty of a class B felony and upon conviction may be imprisoned for not more than ten years, or (i) fined not more than twenty-five thousand dollars if the crime involved less than two kilograms of the drug, or both such imprisonment and fine; or (ii) if the crime involved two or more kilograms of the drug, then fined not more than one hundred thousand dollars for the first two kilograms and not more than fifty dollars for each gram in excess of two kilograms, or both such imprisonment and fine;"
Marijuana is classified in Schedule I

I think your answer should be, "My now EXboyfriend..."
The boy who is going nowhere with his life, will take his girl with him.
When you describe your boyfriend, and the words "marijuana" and "jail" pop up in the same sentence, then he is a textbook loser. Are you so ugly that he is all you can get?
If you don't want to listen to me, then all I can say is,
SMOKE UP, SWEETIE!!! It'll make the pain go away; at least for a little while.

why did you let him do that? MJ is grown, not manufactured. You should know better - this is not a guide to "let's get rich quick". Get a job like everyone else. I hope it's at least a year.
