They still look dilated and I was briefed to leave the sunglasses on for at least an hour.

If dilating eyedrops have been used on you, it will depend on the type. Most will last the rest of the day, but have the effect wear off overnight. Some only last an hour or two. You should briefed. In general driving is not advised while these drops are causing giant pupils, even with sunglasses.

And you should only need the sunglasses outdoors: you won't have to do the "rock star" look indoors.

I used to experience that, say that I got the eye exam in the morning and by evening I still couldn't see right, but overnight the eyes will correct and by morning they should be ok. Now the doctor gives another kind of drops so that you can see in a few hours as they know we all have to drive home or have things to do. The only reason you wear the glasses is to cut down on the glare. If you have glare in the house (sunlight, or the tv is a glare) you might want to wear the sunglasses for that one evening only. The sunglasses are for you to be able to see so you won't fall, and so that you can carry on minimal tasks till the drops wear off.
