My dog went in on Tuesday to be neutered (it is now Thursday). My dog since then has been acting very strange, which I assumed he would for a few days, but I think he is having trouble peeing or he feels like he has to go all the time and has actually had accidents on the carpet. When I take him outside he will squat to go but then he starts running around in the squated position, then he tries going about 4 or 5 more times? The first time he goes he is actually peeing... I am wondering if this is normal or if I should take him back right away?

No, that's not normal.

Neutering is a relatively simply operation that only requires a day or two for recovery.

If your dog is having problems urinating, then something might have gone wrong with the procedure or he may have developed an infection. I would call your vet and then set up an appt. as soon as you can.

I've had neutered dogs and unneutered dogs. I've had dogs neutered at an early age and those who were done as adults. The WORST issues I've ever had was with a dog who was neutered at 5 months. He was AWFUL when b*tches were in season... broke out of crates, chewed through walls, climbed fences-- he tied a couple of my b*tches. Despite massive socialization he was also VERY dog aggressive. He was the only dog I've ever had to correct more than once for marking in the house. --- the only issue he didn't have that tradtionally is "fixed" by neutering is wandering. The health issues are valid. However, there are also health issues that are heightened by neutering too early, especially in a large breed dog. Generally speaking, I believe most of the "issues" people have with intact dogs have more to do with the owner, and occassionally that individual dog, than the do with anything else. My dogs don't wander because I don't let them My dogs are not dog aggressive because I won't tolerate it. My dogs don't mark in the house because I won't tolerate it. I have intact males who I run together when I have b*tches in season. While this may not be possible for every dog, mine know that any squabbling will lead to bad things for them... so they just don't do it. Edit: Humping is an issue with the owner, dominance... and ALLOWING it. I've NEVER had a dog (male or female) who humped.

Something is very wrong there i'm afraid to say! Call your vet asap and tell him / her that you are bringing your dog back immediately for an investigation. When you get there and the problem has been cleared up, tell them you will not be legally responsible for the bill as this problem was none of your doing or your dogs! Its their responsibility to carry out any surgery in a proper manner and not to leave your poor dog unable to wee! I hope he's alright.

Go straight to the vet! This can be an infection from the surgery. If this is the case they will not charge you and office visit (or shouldn't) My dog was a rescue that was neutered by the shelter. We got him too late and he was already in renal failure. Please get him to the vet!

Your dog should recover very quickly from being neutered. Sounds like a problem has developed. I would definitely call your vet.

Not NORMAL! Call your vet now and explain the entire situation. Something is not right and needs a professional intervention.
