You really shouldn't fear trains. Railroad yards are private property, and one really shouldn't spend any time trespassing on them. If you continue to respect them and maintain a decent level of distance from them, as well as being VERY careful, you should be just fine.

When I was 3 years old, growing up next to the railroad tracks was down right frightening because of the size of the trains. They looked sooo huge to me. Big and scary machines...but I grew to love them, and they really are one of the safest forms of transportation. Sure accidents will happen. But it's a lot less likely to happen than an accident on the highway. Railroads transport 42%+ of all the nations goods, more than any other form of transportation. They are safe and very efficient. One car load on a train is the equivelant to 3 or more tractor trailer's on the highway and the rates are very cheap compared to long hauling goods by truck. Trains do the economy a lot of good. If we didn't have trains, the economy would function so much slower and it would take a lot longer to get goods where they need to be. No need to fear them, respect them, even praise them! They keep the country moving! :)

Its ok we all have axniety and fears when ever we do something that is new to us or we have never experienced it before. This makes you perfectly normal by the way. Realize that while the train is a large object it does not move fast it is always on those two rails and millions of people across the countrie take train rides every day. There are nice friendly people who will help make sure you get to where you are going. And please remember how much fun you are going to have ok? that is the best part you will have so much more fun you will not notice any paralyxing fears. Part of life is learning new things and you can overcome anything with the help of good friends. So get a good nights sleep and remember that having fun and seeing new people places and things is the most exciting part of learning something new. best of luck have lots of fun

Well, i think it depends on your point of reference.
If you are afraid to ride on trains as a passenger, relax. you are safer on the train than the taxi ride to the station by far.
Train derailments tend to get a lot of news coverage because they are so spectacular but relatively specaking they are still the safest way to transport things and the things people need.
I been involved in trains since the last age of dinosaurs and I dont feel afraid, very very respectful and aware of the potential danger but not scared, and I am NOT a brave guy!
Still having trouble with seeing Fox and Reality in the same sentence! :-)

ok the first thing is seeing everything on a television shouldnt let u put fear on ur mind because shows show all kinda reality from transport fears to house hold fears, shows of car , train , plane accidents are everyday news but then they are just studies to show that whats being done to even prevent them from happening again.
its right to be scared coz a person who says he isnt scared of anything is lieing but at the same time u should remember that there power packed machines are there for ur own comfort and ease ur lifestyle so yeah there are disasters and they cant be helped but at the same time there is safety too so yeah dont let ur fear rule u :)

What you fear and what you don't fear are matters for you. But, logically, you have far more need to fear road traffic which kills many more people in every country of the world than do trains.

You should be.
Everyone should.
Zero security and bombs on wheels...
Crew members worked to the point of exhaustion running bombs on wheels.
No one cares because they are unaware.
Just remember, I told you so.........
