Why didn't China help their fellow communists during the Vietnam war? My thinking is the United States devestated them during the Korean war and they didn't need that again. Even with their vast resources of men and equipment, they were no match for the U.S. Just as now there is no match for the U.S.

O.k. I don't need smart azz remarks. The U.S. won in Vietnam and you know it. LOL We killed millions in Vietnam and Korea and only lose thousands. Get a clue amigo, they lost MILLIONS because U.S. army navy airforce marines killed their azzes. And I can assure you whatever number they gave, you can probably multiply that by 6 and have the real answer to their loss. Like I said, nobody beats the U.S. IN ANYTHING!!!

If you look at the admitted North Vietnamese causalities and the population t would appear that not all the NVA causalities were North Vietnamese. As for sending massive numbers at once as in Korea; different type war, not needed, longer supply lines and last the North Vietnamese and Chinese were not that close of allies-North Vietnam was polemically closer to Russia and received much of he aid from them. The Chinese even attacked North Vietnam; the two have been historical adversaries and China once had much of the area as "colonies"; they have more then once and still are not great friends. One reason Vienam is re-established relations with the U.S. and getting "friendlier" is to hedge the bets as Russia lost power then allied with China they figured tey could not count on the Russians helping them if the Chinese got aggresive again. Your added comment-Get a clue yourself-We killed more of them then they did of us but the end game is that Saigon is now Ho Chi Minh City-the military loses a war when the politaical goals are not met and the opponeents are. By your way of thinking the Germans won World War Two because they killed a lot more of the Allies then the Allies killed of them. I am a Vietnam vey and hate that we lost that war but the simple fact is we did.

To add to what has turned out to be a RANT by the original poster:

Chinese and Russian Advisers were available in Vietnam along with a limited number of specialist troops.

The Chinese were well able to absorb any losses they had in Korea fighting the U.N. Forces.

The USA abandoned the South Vietnamese so it was clearly a defeat for the USA and no amount of ranting will change that fact.

You are living in a dream world if you continue to think the U.S. cannot be defeated in war.

The Chinese have a far larger Military infrastructure and if they choose to turn against the west then nothing short of a nuclear war would halt them.

As noted, England does not have a president. Actually I believe there were a few English troops that rotated into and out of the country over the years we were fighting their on exchange programs and as observers with both the US and Australian forces. They were not part of SEATO and therefore under no treaty obligation to support the US with troops. I would point out that the US did not deploy troops to Malaya during the Malayan Emergency either, although Australia did. Again, the US was not part of the Commonwealth, and had no treaty obligations.

The reason they didn't send troops into Vietnam, was that the war was all about the threat of the spread of Communism down in to the south-east pacific. China at this time was Communism so it fought with the Vietnamese as they also wanted to become communism. So in the end China was in the war, but on the vietnamese sides.

The fact that they invaded them shortly after we left should answer the question. China wasn't exactly friends with the communists in Vietnam and were very unhappy that their buddies, the Kumer Rough were attacked by Vietnam. China is mostly interested in political arrangements and not just making friends based on similar politics. That is why they support all our enemies like Iran, Chavez, Castro, North Korea.... They can make favorable agreements with isolated nations.

The Chinese and the Vietnamese don't get along. It wasn't long after the South fell that China did send troops, as in invasion, but they weren't that serious about it. Just a border incursion. Google the Sino-Vietnamese war.
