Why would anyone with sound mind adopt a pup under 5 weeks old?
I don't mean people doing it out of necessity!

Most people don't bother to learn anything about child development when they have children... why would you think they would take the time to learn something for a puppy?

Edit: Wow... look at all the thumbs down!!! for everyone!! at least I'm in good company!! Cheers All!!

I don't know Tony. It seems that 4 weeks old is OK to let the pups leave mom with some owners. It is also the time when pups become more mobile and a bit more work too. So It is also the time when owners give them away so they don't have to deal with the work or expense of properly raising the pups. They have no clue as to when it is correct to let the pups go. These are the dogs who are not properly socialized and these are the pups who usually end up in shelters with behavior problems too.
How do you tell these invisible people that 4 weeks old or 5 Weeks old is too young to pups to be sold or given away???

I've been here for a long time and I feel like I'm talking to the wind about this. I only hope that pup makes it and doesn't come down with parvo. Well see if she posts anything in coming weeks. I would not be a bit surprised.

I'm sorry but I see no necessity to give or seperates pups from a littler at 4 or 5 weeks old at all. Even if mom is gone the pups do learn for each other and if your a caring owner you also help form the personalities of each pup. You then become the mom.

The first command I now want to fix in a pup's mind to the expected behavior is come. I find whatever will motivate the individual pup to want to work for me & ensure training sessions are short & sweet {no more than three minutes at one time} & FUN. The second command is off. I use off to teach a pup not to jump up on people, sofas, counters ect. The third is the heel, which I begin with the pup off lead & following me in the right position in the garden. I later attach a lead, keep it loose & encourage the pup to focus on me. Building block commands also include give {drop at item on command}, sit, down, leave & the useful watch command.

I´m sure they think that 5 week old puppy would develope a stronger bond with their owner and is extra cute. Obviously, they haven´t done their research and don´t know how socially crucial it is for the pup to be with its mom and litter mates at this time.

Probably not and who says they are of sound mind.
It is the cute factor that makes them want such a young puppy. People that will buy such a young puppy are the same people that get rid of it when it is no longer small and cute.

A better question is, who would let their pups go at that age? The owner is responsible for letting them be weaned before giving them away.

New dog owners do not know any better. It is not their fault but the fault of the breeders who let them go that early. I know one breeder who bred min pins for many years. He always sold his dogs at 4 weeks, so he wouldn't have to feed them any dog food. H didn't care anything about the dogs. They were just money making machines for him. I actually bought a couple of pups from him. They were nice pups. Being a breeder and experienced dog owners, I knew how to properly care for the pups and they did fine. My chihuahuas help with the socialization and training of any new pups in our home.

Are you referring to the question where the guy had a 5 week old bulldog or something and had already had it for 1 week?

Yeah, scary.

The average person has trouble housetraining their dog. What would they know about puppy development? They don't even think about that.. They think they want a young puppy so that he will learn to love them more...

I think what you have in this situation is a match made in hell. An uneducated buyer & seller who know nothing about breeding & raising dogs. The phrase puppy mill comes to mind.
