The Ovation is a MUCH better guitar. It's like a Gibson and an Epiphone. The gib's hot, many Epi's are not.

The Applause is a cheaper built version of the Ovation. Its construction is sub-standard and so is its sound. Looks are the only difference and that is what the Asian makers of Applause are counting on. My advice - stick with the Ovation. You can find used ones really cheap as a lot of people don't think they're comfortable to play (myself included) Hope this helps.

That's one guitar that I've never played....only heard...and I thought it had a great sound....as for the 227 I think your going to have to try that out for yourself and see....some may say that oh yes that guitar sounds great or is greater then the normal ovation....but I think it depends on the individuals ear...and what sound they like....what I would suggest to you is to play it for yourself....only you can tell if you like it better...as you know everyone has a sound that they like....some may like the normal and others may like the 227...only you can be the judge of what you like best !!!!!!! You could have five ovations and five people and everyone may pick a different one that they like.....I know that months ago I went to buy a new classical guitar and spent over $1500.00 for one that I really liked....but when I got it home there was something about that sound that I didn't like....I took it back and spend half that amount for another one and loved that sound a lot better...so it's not alwayss the price....it's alway that sound and action !!!! Hope that this helped you decide !!!!!!! bye.

I have two Ovations, a 6string and a 12 string that #i use for performing. I, too, am deeply in love with them. I 've always considered the Applause line tp be inferior -OK, cos they're Ovation, but not as good. Hope this helps.
