Yep, as suggested, check for uninsured motorist coverage. In Missouri the law says you must have insurance or a bond for mega bucks, but that doesn't keep deadbeat smucks from driving with no insurance. Regardless of what the law says, that's why you have to buy uninsured motorist coverage when you purchase insurance.

The easy way to handle it:
Call your insurance company and file an uninsured motorist claim. Once your company settles up with you, they pursue the uninsured motorist for re-payment. In the mean time - you got your car fixed and have moved on with life.

I didn't have uninsured motorist with State Farm when I got hit in a parking lot by an uninsured driver. I turned it in to my insurance and they prosecuted the driver and got my deductible back for me. He lost his license until I was paid.
