Im 40 in feb, & my girlfriend(27) has offered me a holiday as a gift.
We fancy a cruise to somewhare hot,but not to expensive,around £1000 for both of us for a week.
The problem is,we dont fancy the bow tie & ball gown cruise.
Has anyone been on any without the dressing posh bit?
I want something with a disco & a few beers & a laugh along with people.
Any ideas?

There is a book published annually by Berlitz - your local library should have it/be able to get it.
Called "Ocean Cruising and Cruise Ships" by Douglas Ward rated as "The world's foremost authority on cruising"
Every line and every cruise ship is examined, described and rated.
All facilities on each ship are listed and what you can expect.
On a fairly good, but run of the mill cruise liner, I would expect to pay around £100 per day, each. e.g. P & O's Oriana.
You do need to do some homework first - a friend disregarded this advice and booked on a Costa ship at height of the holiday season to find herself engulphed in screaming kids and very excitable Italian Mamas all pushing double buggies!

Sounds like you are looking for a Carnival, Royal Caribbean or Norwegian cruise. All three cruise around Europe (some only seasonally) and many people from Europe (including the UK) come to the United States to board a ship belonging to one of these three cruise lines.
Norwegian is the most casual of the three, since Norwegian's formal nights are optional. Carnival and Royal Caribbean both have two formal nights per week, but other wise both lines are very casual.
All three lines attract passengers that are younger and active. All three lines have lots of bars, lounges and a large disco.

Ocean Village is a cruise ship that dosent do bow tie and ball gown but be careful as these ships have become glorified Butlin Holiday Camps at sea eating out of chipped dishes and off tables that are rarely wiped clean with poor entertainment and expensive drink prices.

Island Cruises is disgusting, the worst food and service in the industry.
P&O´s service was good, but really went downhill.
Ive worked on both.
Go Thomson, its cheap, the service very good and so is the food and the ships are really friendly.

Go on P&O Cruises for a week cruise to spain, portugal and france it is brill u dont need to dress up and there is booze discos everything that u could imagine is there for u to use and the places are really good as well.

We've been on Thomson cruises three times, and found them reasonably priced. Food was lovely.
Royal Caribbean was OK too.
If you don't want to dress up, you don't have to with either company.

These are cruises around the Greek islands....fairly cheap...and certainly not the snobby ball-gown/bow-tie type of holiday! Have a look! It might be just the thing!
