I used Bio-Spot flea drops and shame on me for not doing my research beforehand...apparently it is no good for kitties. (I just rescued 4 stray kittens about 3 months old)

Now i am going to buy Advantage from my vet on Sunday but should i wash the Bio-Spot stuff off first before applying a second kind of flea control?

I think so, but ask a vet to be sure, when you buy the Advantage.

In fact, I'd call the vet and ask today, since he may advise you to wash off as much Bio-Spot as possible as quickly as possible. This needn't involve a full bath for the kittens, just using dishwashing soap (not dishwasher detergent) and washing and rinsing the area where it was applied.

Bio-Spot is an organo-phosphate, I believe, and yes, you can sure make a pup sick using it. It can build up in the system, so the pup might not have gotten sick with the first dose, but the second caused cumulative effects. It's killed a few cats and dogs around here. Besides, it doesn't work well at all against fleas. My personal favorite flea product is Revolution. The new Promeris (works up to 6 weeks) is showing promise of being an excellent product. FWIW, I used Revolution only on my cats and dogs religiously for 3 months, and totally eliminated the fleas on our place. We have 12-14 cats in residence all the time, and 2 dogs. No fleas. Get this: haven't had to redose a cat in over 2 years! No that's flea control.

Yes, it's bad stuff. If you haven't seen any adverse reactions so far you're probably safe, but you might want to wash it off just in case, especially if it's less than 24 hours since you applied it - it takes 24 hours for it to really do it's thing!

Just be aware that if you bath the cats you'll need to wait 24-48 hours before applying proper treatment because you'll have washed off the skin's natural oils that Frontline, Advantage etc. require to work.

Beware of getting sucked in by cheap and dangerous flea products - spread the word!!

Why are you saying Bio Spot is bad? I ve been using it for years, it s never harmed my cats and it works just as well as the high priced stuff the vet sells, I know this for a fact because I bought the high priced stuff for my puppy, used it on him, and used bio spot on my cats on the exact same day - and exactly 2 weeks later the cats and dog was covered in fleas AGAIN, so neither one works great to keep fleas off so in that aspect its a waste of money and not good - but safety wise I ve never seen any issues with it using it myself or any of my friends and family who ve used it for years as well.

You have to make sure you get the proper one not just the one that says for cats, but it goes by weight as well! just like it does for dogs, you won t use one for 10 pounds and up on a cat that only weighs 5 pounds! just like you wouldn t use a dog flea drop medication on a 5 pound dog when it s intended for a dog 30 pounds or more.

advantage can only be used on kittens that are over 1kg .. so please be careful .. your vet will need to see them and weigh them .
my first reaction is No as the bio spot is absorded into the skin no amount of washing will remove it completely. you may hae to wait for the recommended period of time between doses before you change to another anti flea product..

Best to talk to the vet to be sure .

Actually Bio spot is O.K. if you got the kind for cats, however the dog kind is very toxic to cats. Give them a bath right off. I recommend Frontline Plus, but that is just my opinion. Biospot is not waterproof so it will wash away!
