Just think about it, its not impossible just improbable. DI's are human beings to. So what would happen if a personal friend of theis happened to be assigned under them.

honestly I think it would suck, because your friend is the DI. he would have to dog the crap out of you, and probably get great pleasure out of it. He would not be able to admit you two are friends cuz then he would be removed from your unit.... conflict of interest.

He'd probably be harder on you than the rest of the recruits.

But it would be funny.

The D.I. in question would be well-advised to have the friend-in-question transfered to another training company, there can be NO room for outside friendship in a situation like basic training. If that wasn't possible, then the fact that the D.I. had been friends with you beforehand would have to not matter, there could be NO fraternization, of any sort, nor any indication of prior acquaintance during training. Remember, that D.I. is not your friend while he is training you, no matter what. He is your D.I., and to those that understand, that says it all.

When i was deployed to Southeast Asia i was attached to a larger unit from the states. One of the senior sergeants of the unit i was attached to was also one of my drill instructors back in basic training. He made sure that i was assigned under him and now we are good friends.

Not exactly an answer to the question, but i think its a funny story.

If I was the DI, I'd have him transferred to another DI.
