If dilating eyedrops have been used on you, it will depend on the type. Most will last the rest of the day, but have the effect wear off overnight. Some only last an hour or two. You should be briefed. In general driving is not advised while these drops are causing giant pupils, even with sunglasses.

And you should only need the sunglasses outdoors: you won't have to do the "rock star" look indoors.

What is a diabetic retina scan?

I do scans daily for retinal diseases but don't do a 'scan' unless there's a reason to do so because I've been able to see that this person has early diabetic retinopathy or ?.

Then the scan demonstrates how much, leaks, localizations, ?need for angiography, etc., but just a diabetic scan? hmmm.

If you are dilated, takes about 6 hours or so to get back, depending on the drops they use.

Dilation drops are used to allow the doctor to see the inside of the eyes. The effect generally last for 2-4 hours and you may be light sensitive after the procedure. There is a new technology to see the inside with out the use of the dilating drop, it is called OPTOMAP.
