Other than GIMP.... Gimp won't work on my system for some reason. I'm running Windows 2000 at work and I do have administrative rights, so intalling it wouldn't be a problem.

So does anybody know of any Photo editing programs similar to Photoshop that I can download for free? I just need it to do a few things if anybody knows of any programs that will let me do this, please let me know which one(s).

I need the program to allow me to:

-Crop Pics
-Add TEXT to a Pic
-Maybe some effects like Photoshop

That's pretty much it, nothing too fansy..... the main thing I'm looking to do, is to be able to crop some Pics and add TEXT to them and maybe manipulate the Pic a little.

Thanks in advanced!!

I already have PICASA which is fine, but there is no ADD TEXT function on it.

This is the ERROR message I get when trying to install GIMP and I'm not sure if installing a different runtime will cause any problems since it's a "wrok" computer.

GTK+ 2.0 runtime environment was not found on your computer. GTK+ Runtime Environment version 2.4.14 or newer is required to use The Gimp. You can download GTK+ 2.0 runtime environment from .
Please install GTK+ before running the Gimp setup again.

You can do a few basic things just using the Paint program included with Windows. In your Programs menu under Accessories would be a good place to look for the shortcut to Paint. With Paint you can add text, crop pictures, scale pictures and more.

Gimp is probably the best you can get. Did you install the GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment? You absolutely need to do that for it to work. Look for the link to it on

http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

The GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment is a separate installation from Gimp. Your computer will work fine with the GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment, and you will be able to use Gimp. Gimp will probably be the only program using the GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment.

You will have to install the GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment before installing Gimp.

Well the phote editing program I have is Photoshop CS4, but I guess that won't work either way for you because you say it's too hard and it's pretty darn expensive (but it's one of my most treasured items, lol). Uh, like some said before me, there's always Gimp. I used to use that program a long time ago and it was always free. It's not the best photo editing program, but it is somewhat good and useful and it is free, you just have to go to the site. I don't know any other photo editing programs though. I mean I know Photobucket has that little feature now, but I don't know if that's what you're looking for. Good Luck!

GIMP should work on Windows 2000, so I would look into that. I recommend GIMP, it has many features of Photoshop and costs nothing.

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

Other alternative include: Paint.net or Picasa from Google.

Did you install GTK yet? Some people are confused by the error message and don't realize that GTK is a required framework for GIMP. Update your question with more info and we'll check back.

Microsoft Photo Editor

Here is a link for it:
http://www.megaiq.com/downloads/microphotoed.exe

Just extract it to a folder and double click on it I would recommend right click on your image file and choose open with and browse to the folder that you extracted it to and select this file: PHOTOED.EXE and choose to open with that program all the time
