It's been like 4 hours since my Ingrown Toenail Surgery, and, stupid me, I removed my bandage, however I put a new one on in under 5 minutes. My mum has gone extactic, saying it has gotten infected and will infect the bone.

Is it really that seriouse, or is there a chance I've gotten away with my stupidity?

You should be fine. I changed my bandages once a day to keep it clean. Just do whatever your doctor told you to do from now on :)

She's right in the aspect that you shouldn't have removed your bandage until the doctor says it's safe, but chances of it getting infected are pretty slim, although it still can happen. Just make sure you keep it clean and bandage it back up as you already said you have done, and make sure to take your antibiotics. Good luck.

oh you will be fine! I had the whole toe nail removed 4 weeks ago and I tool the bandage off soon. You will be really sore tonight! Keep it covered while sleeping the first couple of nights and if you can wear only a sock a few days and no shoe that will help alot.

there are only two "secrets" to preventing ingrown toenails. 1. Cut your nails square across the end of the toe. Never cut the nail back behind the tip of the toe. 2. Wear shoes that have a wide "box", or toe. Never get shoes that squeeze the toes together. If you have any question about this, ask your family doctor about it at your next visit. I have to agree with, though. The best treatment is prevention.

The chance of infection is remote, especially if you take oral antibiotics
