i was married a good while and my social life went out the window. I just kind of feel embarrassed to go by myself but it gets really boring staring at 4 walls at home.

Why would it be wrong??? You cannot always have someone with you wherever you go. If it is OK to go out to get something to eat, why would going to a bar be any different. There are a lot of guys who go to bars alone. I have just started going out dancing by myself, which means I have to muster the nerve to ask a dozen different women to dance to find 3 or 4 who will. Big deal, thats the way of life. Go out, have fun.

I separate the music from the individual making it, to a large degree. There are a lot of rock stars who are jerks, that's part of rock and roll. I think the n-word is reprehensible, and it shows something deep about the character of the user. However, I wouldn't blacklist an artist from my playlist for having been known to utter it once. Especially since Costello is British, where the word is not native. There have been racist musicians, and homophobic ones, and ignorant ones. Often the worst offenders are also not very good musicians, so no dilemma comes up. But "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On'" is my favorite song among guys who married 13-year-old cousins, and there are many other great songs by people who are reprehensible characters in real life. I have no problem with listening to Phil Spector records, or even Charles Manson's albums. They're good or interesting music. I think both belong in prison. But those are the men, not the music. I'm not gonna hang posters of them on my wall, or send them autograph requests or anything. But "Be My Baby" belongs to me and anyone else who loves it, not to Phil Spector. Music is music. I approach it on those terms.

Of course it's not wrong . . .I've been thinking about doing the same thing . . . I met a friend at the Ruby Tuesday's bar a few months ago and now wonder why I don't start going down there occasionally myself - I saw several guys that were there alone just having a beer and it was not a sleazy bar like some of the other places around here.

If you're going there just to drink by yourself, then yeah, that would be problematic, even pathetic. However, if you're going there to socialize, then there shouldn't be a problem provided the drinking doesn't get out of control and you plan for transportation so you're not driving under the influence.

Go out and have a good time. There's nothing wrong with that at all.
